  1. Dear all I may have the opportunity to move from Europe to the US for a year. I have a preamp and two monoblock of 900W each, top brand. Changing them to US standard is a nightmare. I was told that buying a 110 to 220 converter was not good for sound, specially because of the frequency range (50 / 60). Has anyone experienced this ? I thought maybe getting a 110 to 220 power converter plugged into a European PSAudio powerplant (P5 or P10) to regenerate pure signal ? Any advice from somebody having done this is welcome ! Best and happy musical 2017
  2. I confrim : if you add leading zero, it doex not work.
  3. My son just graduated from 4 years at a top School for Sound engineer, from Conservatoire de Paris. He told me one day a professor changed a parameter in a sound production, and said how much the sound was changed. And all students agreed the sound was totally different. Until a student realized that the parameter change had absolutely no effect on the output; the signal was exacttly the same... So I believe more in md5 checksum than what your ear tell you.
  4. I have tried dsf:wav24;176 : both oppo and Linn read this perfectly, as it is all transcoded. Now, I had made more test (yes, on an iPad) : - Lumin & Kazoo don't recognize that Linn cannot read dsf, and therefore send it through without any transcoding. - Lumin & Kazoo recognize that Oppo can read dsf, and send it through - Kinsky does recognize and transcode for the Linn - Kinsky does not recognize that Oppo can read dsf, and therefore transcode So, basically, Kazoo & Lumin never transcode, and Kinsky always transcode ! Will try the reverse order which you did as well. I don't have an Android device :-( And as for the Oppo, I use BubbleUPnP server on my synology to create an openHome renderer. Thx for your detailed contribution !!
  5. My biggest job was to rip the entire Bach Cantata Suzuki Box set (55 Sacd's) I did it in two part : 1) ripping all of them to ISO (no other way than manually) 2) launching the following Batch file from my Mac, which ran overnight, to create the dsf files #!/bin/sh # Note : This file is to be placed in the folder where you want the output # BASEDIR Is the place where all iso files are, it can be related to where is the output # They can be in many sub directories # SacdCmd is the place where the application is located BASEDIR="../ISO" SacdCmd="/Applications/iso2dsd_OSX_v6/sacd_extract -2 -s -c -P -i" find $BASEDIR -type f -name "*.iso" -exec $SacdCmd {} \;
  6. Hello I am using Minimserver on a Synology, and I have now all my SACDs collection ripped in dsf format. I have two renderers : one (Oppo) reads dsf, the other (Linn) does not. As I do not want to duplicate all my dsf into flac, I use the minimserver trick, which is to transcode dsf to wave only if the renderer cannot read dsf (the exact syntax of stream.transcode is dsf:-/wav24;176 which means "if the renderer can read dsf, send him dsf; if not, convert to wav24 @ 176kHz"). This means that the control point must be able to read the information published by the renderer. If it can't, then the app scrolls through all files, and plays none. This is what unfortunatly happens on most renderers. I have tested a few control point apps : - Lumin app does not work - Linn Kazoo does not work - PlugPlayer : does not work - Kinsky : yeah, does work ! (yes, the good old Kinsky does work) - Creation 5 : does work partially (it is the reverse of the others : it converts perfectly dsf to wave24 for the Linn, but when sending to the oppo, nothing happens) I have not tested any other. It would be nice if all control points now would correct their app to make them working properly ! Thx
  7. Happy to tell it works perfectly on my Oppo BDP-105D; with the last firmware (dated one year ago though; it is a European one) I have been able to rip my collection, including the Bach Cantatas Suzuki Box-Set. For this last one (55 SACDs) all ripping to ISO were done manually, but I wrote a little script to convert automatically all ISO into dsf, which ran overnight. I found the Front images and the Booklets for download on chandos web site (I had to search a little to get them, but they are free to download ;-) This made me buying SACDs, the one being much cheaper on amazon than buying the dsf directly... What fascinates me is the silence of the ripping; for those like me who have been ripping all their CD collection, it is so fun to hear no spinning noise at all !!! All files playing on the Oppo. I use the Lumin app, and I created an openHome renderer using BubbleUpnp Server on my synology to access the Oppo from the app. It has a huge drawback : bubbleupnp is not gapless.
  8. First congratulation for the work ! I have been waiting this for a long time, as an Oppo 105 owner. I have a question, sorry if it is not the proper place to ask : I use iso2dsd to convert from SACD iso file to dsf on a Mac. Parameters are : Channel mode Dual, output mode Sony DSF and convert DST to DSD ticked It works perfectly, except a potential issue : when I look at the dsf file generated through terminal, using the command file -I it says the mime-type is application/octet-stream while I would expect audio/dsd ? Or maybe I am wrong ? Thx
  9. OK. I had bought one in Australia (BDP105AU) which would not accept the update once I arrived in Paris. Would detect my IP address and say it is incompatible.
  10. I guess from your location that it is the European firmware ?
  11. 3 reasons to rip : 1) in terms of usage, it is so nice to have only one control point and no bother for switching devices. Plus Simon (the unique Simon, creator of minimserver) gave a trick so that dsd is sent either as a dsd or as a flac according to what the player can read. 2) We are in a fast moving world, in terms of DAC. Tomorrow will see better and better DAC. But not SACD players. 3) It is always crucial to upgrade supports. Who can read a floppy disk nowadays ? Those who did not upgrade supports have lost data. And data is the value... As for me, I will rip my SACD without any hesitation; because it is a boring process; and the sonner you got rid of it, the better. Maybe I will allow myself to store the iso file somewhere else.. Hope it helps
  12. 1) Hires files : depending on your musical taste, Qobuz had a bigger catalog than HDTracks but no DSD. I like PrestoCLassical, and Native DSD music. 2) Records on SACD not available on DSD ? The whole AliaVox (Jordi Savall - Hesperion 21). You may find some in HI-Res Flac (but not all of them), but not DSD, contrary to a label like LSO Live which is on the nativeDSD platform (https://lsolive.nativedsd.com/). And a notable true exception : the superb Album "Circle of Drums", Babatunde Olatungi, is a SACD, but on all site which sell it, the only download is Flac CD format (16/44). Just for this one I am happy to now be able to rip mine on my oppo ! 3) I can say that DSD played on the Oppo 105 as a renderer sound better than the flac played on an Akurate as a renderer. Hope it helps. Thx
  13. I am using XLD to convert DSF to flac without any problem... But I prefer to use the streaming transcoder of Minimserver. A DS214Play can offer the necessary CPU power.
