  1. Hi: I'm looking for some direction with a computer choice for my schiit eitr spdif converter as far as the motherboard (audio quality) is concerned. I need a new computer and I'm deciding between an off the shelf one with an unknown motherboard versus one I'd have built with an Asus TUF B450M. Now I know that the audio segment in the Asus is good and the unknown one, I have no idea. What I would like to know is if I'm using the computer for the eitr into my integrated amp, do I need to be concerned about the audio quality part of the pc's motherboard. Or, does it not matter about the board because it is going through the eitr converter which will clean up the audio regardless of the quality of the computer's audio capability. Thanks for any help.
  2. Thanks to you both. I'll try to pursue my goal albeit with difficulty for none of these pieces are near me to see and hear and I despise driving the GTA. Furthermore, I don't have the funds to climb up the multiple purchasing ladder that some have experienced. I would like to do it right the first purchase as much as possible. Therefore, more research is needed on my behalf - measure twice; cut once.
  3. Thanks to you both for your time. You stated, "My general rule for computer audio is that if you looked into a product and you don't understand it, that product is not for you." To that I truly disagree. I look into things, I ask questions (which none of us have been immune to doing at various times and seasons), and then look some more: anything less is compromise. You also both assume wrongly that I just came here to pick your brains without doing some research beforehand. I'm sorry that I wore you out with my questions to learn alongside of my own searching.
  4. If I were to go the way of the converter, can you suggest a couple of them that you believe would be a good bang for the buck without compromising quality? Thanks ecwl.
  5. Thanks Kenny I looked into the Rendu but could not get a handle on what it actually is and what it does. Would you be able to explain it to me? I even watched a youtube about it but the speaker didn't make it clear. Also, it's good to hear that it does not rely on the internet and that the ethernet is merely for the initial. Thanks
  6. Let me know if I'm understanding you: while keeping in mind that I've been talking about a laptop DAC setup from my first post onward. I'm also trying to fill in the blanks. Instructions through internet are very difficult and different from the person to person conversation perspective. Out of my laptop I have a jitterbug then USB A to USB B into a USB-to-S/PDIF converter and then optical coming out and into the MOJO, then the 3.5mm out of the MOJO headphone jack and the RCA's into my integrated? I assumed you were keeping the MOJO in this scenario. Please correct me if I am wrong. Unless you are leaving out the MOJO in this case and and I'm just left with this converter? If this is the case do they really cost as much as the MOJO? Also, am I correct that the mRendu relies on an internet connection? Thanks ecwl
  7. Just trying to get the most information I can on this side of the ownership fence. I'd have to purchase the unit by post and once received, it's mine. The mRendu sounds nice - more money going out - and as I understand it, it is reliant on an ethernet connection ergo internet based. I'm wanting to have my system just reliant on electricity and with the condition of the national grid that's even a risk.
  8. Thanks ecwl: I don't want to exhaust you but could you extrapolate for a moment with me. Do you think that if I deal with the small inconveniences of the MOJO setup that I'm intending, that I'll end up with better sonics and therefore a better listening experience than I would with let's say a Audiolab MDAC+ or a Peachtree, or an Arcam irDAC 2 or any others in their price range? Your knowledge and Chord experience will give me more confidence to proceed. I know hearing is a subjective quality, but I'm asking in general. Thanks
  9. Thanks very much Muski. Appreciated.
  10. Thanks Kennyb123. Regarding the Audioquest adapter that you suggested, between that one and their 3.5mm to rca, do you think one would give better sound quality transmission over the other?
  11. Thanks Muski, I'll look into that. If they sent me a defective one it might present difficulties getting it returned as compared to buying one here, finding an issue and dealing with a store a couple hours away. Cheers
  12. Thanks ecwl: You said, "Anyway, I thought you were looking for the best sonic upgrade for your buck. Given what you really want to do, I think you should save some money and take a totally different approach then." I do want the best sonic upgrade for my buck and that is why I'm pursuing the MOJO - and it also works for my budget. The Peachtree is ok, but does not have the engineering of the MOJO. Was the set-up I explained above for my laptop not going to bring out MOJO's best sonics in this application? If not, can you tell me how I could set up my laptop/integrated as to give me the best I could get with the MOJO? I want to see if this can work for me before buying and failing with money out of pocket. I could easily go the way of the Arcam irDAC 11 or the Audiolab MDAC+ but I desire the Chord technology. Thanks ecwl
  13. Thanks so much ecwl for your time. Just to recap: My main and initial goal was the ability to access my music files from my laptop into an outboard DAC and then through my integrated. The only thing I lack is the outboard DAC. So what I see is that I place the jitterbug into my USB laptop and then I'd have to have a USB -A from the jitterbug to USB mini into the MOJO. Then out of the MOJO I'd have a Y cable, a 3.5mm out one of the MOJO's headphone jacks with the corresponding analogue ends then going into my CXA 60 bypassing my CXA 60's onboard DAC and then its off to great MOJO sound correct? Since I'm an eager novice, I'm deliberately walking in simple steps so as to get it straight - I know it sounds green and that I might be mentally challenged (it's always a possibility) but it helps me - at least one knows what level I'm at. As an aside, I did phone the distributor of Chord in Canada and he gave me a store in Toronto with a couple of specific individuals to talk to, but they new squat about the unit. So I received no help there and am now here appreciating any help I can receive. Also, I know the MOJO is not ideal and was not intended for what I want without overcoming some barriers, but it is hard to settle for less when you listen to the developer talk of what his unit can do above the others for the price. If set up this way (that is if the above arrangement is correct to achieve good sound), I could just buy a charger and plug it in USB micro. I think I read that you shouldn't have both USB's operational at the same time so unplug the USB line in at this time. Ecwl, if I'm getting it wrong in any of the above, I appreciate you throwing me a bone and setting me straight in a way a green horn understands - it takes awhile to figure out the lingo an experienced person uses in any field of study so thanks, your help is valuable. If there is another way to incorporate this unit into my above description, please also let me know.
