  1. In my case, it happened when my router would reboot (and the interfaces would momentarily go down). I reproduced by just removing the ethernet cable from the port and inserting it back.
  2. Hi Tim A possible bug, but please reproduce on your side as well. I am using a static IP. However, I saw that the dhcpdp service still runs. That wouldn't be a big issue IF dhcpcd would not remove the IP from the interface if eth0 link goes down. Happened a few times and I was unable to log back in, and when checking from the console saw that there is no IP on eth0 anymore. I have disabled dhcpcd (systemctl disable dhcpcd) and all is ok now, the static IP is not removed from the interface when link goes down. Hope that helps.
  3. Thanks, indeed, probably the best approach is a real-world test Was not sure if the noise is caused by (or related with) the ground or something else, but if it's the ground.. yeah.. I guess charging the battery while it supplies the RPI defeats the purpose.
  4. Thanks Jabbr! The question is if it's ok to charge the battery with an ordinary chear supply _while_ it is powering the RPI, or are we back to square one if I do this? In the meantime I have ordered an ifi iPower supply which seems to be quite well regarded (Accessory – iPower)
  5. Sorry guys, didn't want to start another thread for a possibly stupid question and found this discussion here.. Without wanting to interrupt your discussion (that I don't really understand much ). I heard that: 1) cheap RPI power supplies introduce noise 2) a battery pack is much better (at least until it starts getting empty). Supposing these above are true, would it make any sense to power a RaspPI via a battery pack? (wall outlet-> battery pack charger -> battery pack -> RPI). On some packs they say you shouldn't power them while they supply power to devices, but what do you say about this setup? Is it completely crazy?
  6. I am a new Moode user (by the way great work Tim!) and just tried today to play Tidal from my iPhone via Moode with Airplay. It worked just fine. I guess you already enabled it in Settings/System ...
  7. MPD is open source isn't it? Though this doesn't really help me as I wouldn't know what to do with the sources
  8. I certainly would not want to start a controversy and I do understand now the different point of views (did not think that the software implementation could cause jitter on the digital outs, and to be honest, if this is caused by the internal CPU scheduling - the only thing that comes to mind - as long as the OS is not realtime, then I can't see how _any_ app would be able to work around this). So what's left to find out is if people do hear differences between OSMC and MPD-based solutions. I could only find one guy in a forum saying that he tested these and OSMC "didn't sound great" (or something like that) in comparison. I feel that I'm gonna have to test it myself to see if there is any difference I can identify. Thanks for the reply!
  9. Thanks Keith. I had hoped this is not as debated as it seems is. However, I would not use other DSPs, just want the player to be as ... transparent ... as possible if that's a good word here. Any audiophiles that are using OSMC successfully?
  10. Hi guys I am making my first steps in (PI-based) HIFI but after having read through many forums and links, I still have a question: does a software player (whatever comes with any of the PI distributions around, volumio, runeaudio, moode, osmc, etc) matter when playing say flac files via digital outputs? (built in HDMI or via Hifiberry DIGI+). Because I can't imagine how the player would change this digital playing much though I do understand how a DAC, speakers, cables, etc would change that. I need this to decide if I should stick to OSMC (that I use for video) also for music or to have a separate headless PI with one of the audio distributions around if there's good reason to believe playing from those is better (audible). p.s. I could not arrange yet an A/B test as I have just ordered speakers and will take some time to get them, but also I don't think my ear is very sensitive to small differences in audio so asking the community for help. p.s2: final setup: hifiberry digi+ -> digital coax -> yamaha s501 stereo amp -> b&w cm5 s2 Thanks Adrian
