  1. alright, just spoke to someone at Genelec and was able to confirm that the THE ONE range converts everything to 24/96, so I don't want to have the speakers doing any unnessesary conversion so I'll send it 24/96 now, on the HQplayer side, what's the best dither/filter combo to optimize for 24/96? I have it set to Gauss1 and poly-sinc-guass-xla but shaped or NS4 could also be options, still playing around with them but wanted to get some additional color on those filters. thanks!
  2. rats. I wanted to have a fully AES immersive system it looks like Morten Lindberg from 2L uses the Hapi Dac > Analog in in his Genelec setup, which might not be such a bad idea. I also heard rumblings that Genelec will be adding RAVENNA input to their speakers (again).
  3. I want to use the HAPI mk2 as the central router for my immersive audio setup (7.1.4 all genelec SAM based) in AES it looks like the hapi only have 8 channels of AES, the horus has more, but it seems a bit outdated compared to the mk2 specs of the hapi is there any way to get additional aes outputs through the hapi expansion slot or should i wait for a horus mk2?
  4. I should have said what I have. I have three turntables. 1) Verete MG-1 with SG HB Tonearm and Mystic Stylus, driven by Tempo (my "audiophile" setup for ultra well recorded/engineered records like Lemon of Pink) 2) Vinyl Nirvana Thorens TD-160 Super with Sorane TA-1 tonearm and Grado Reference 3 cart (Jazz and Classical) 3) Totally custom, reworked, dampened Rega P6 by Sean Casey at Zu Audio with Zu DL-103 MKII cart with cart-back recable with Zu Event (Blues, Rock, Hiphop) All of these go into a Pass Labs XP-27 then to XP-22 to XA-25 (well, two at a time.. I'm looking to an EMT JPA66 MK3 to demo in my system as a potential upgrade). I have pretty much only used the Verete for ripping and archiving, but sometimes records just play better on the others, and I'm too lazy to put any up for sale, so they stay. So, ya, I'd like a nice A/D to capture this.
  5. ya I am looking into the Merging gear, as well
  6. I have been using an RME fireface UFXIII to record vinyl 24/192 its pretty good, but wondering if getting something dedicated like a crane song Interstellar might be a better option the tube diode controls seems very interesting to play around with anyone have experience with high end ADC for vinyl ripping thanks !
  7. ya it's all about system feel and personal preference and what features you want if you can get them both in to try, I suggest that (resale on both is really damn good and quick) I don't think there is another TT coming for awhile I honestly don't think you'll have a bad time with either, they are probably the two best overall dac's in the world, it simply comes down to application.
  8. Hello good sir! Happy to share my thoughts, but as always, take with a grain of salt. Sorry if there was any confusion. I move stuff around a lot and don't keep my profile updated. I have two different systems for two different use cases. My work machine upstairs is purely a 24/192 workhorse through an RME Fireface UFX III feeding a pair of Genelec 8361a with w371a woofer stands via AES. I like to rip/remaster vinyl and produce music, so that's what this rig is for. I was originally running the Chord up here, but my Gennies have their own built-in DAC that converts the analog-in to digital so it can be processed in the room correction DSP then back out to analog. It didn't make sense to convert to 768 through HQPlayer then go to the Chord to get converted to analog then back to digital and back to analog again, so I ripped it out and fed HQplayer directly to the onboard dacs in the Gennies and everything is much, much tighter (altho I do miss some of the slam the chord brought, but to be honest it would get fatiguing fast). The chord setup in this way also had a tendency to sound muddy during thick passages of sound (which led me to start experimenting taking it out of the rig entirely). Previously I never had fed HQplayer to the monitors directly for hifi listening, and I'm glad I did. The genelec's max sample rate is 24/192 so that's what I have HQPlayer set to and I really am in love with the sound now after months of experimenting. This is the best this speaker setup has ever sounded. It's very analytical, but that's the point. Downstairs is my fun listening rig (Zu Definition + Pass Labs pre/phono/amp). The Zu's are already pretty rocking loud and in your face speakers, and I always found that Chord has a front row, aggressive feel to it. That proved to be too much of a good thing in this setup. I looked into the May because it was NOS, converted DSD natively and I already had a Red and was impressed with the build quality. The May compliments this system much better and I can listen for much longer periods of time. I prefer the May for a few additional reasons: 1) I like the look better 2) I like keeping audio gear in the family when I can and it makes sense. 3) I need less connections with the May, the USB implementation is solid on it via Titanis 2.0. So no need for SRC-DX and having worry about if I have the right cable or linear power supply. (plus I heard SRC-DX can't play DSD so that's a hard pass). 4) I prefer DSD and the May on my speakers and amps, it's more of a feeling. I guess more analog sounding? (I have a Verete MG-1 turntable to compare to, which the May sounds more like than the Chord but neither can touch the performance). You're right, the Chord converts incoming DSD to PCM. I tried DSD on the Chord through HQplayer but it sounded pretty damn flat and way too relaxed. I guess it tamed the aggressive streak but it lacked soul. A good example of why too many steps is a bad thing. I don't feed any DAC through the gaming rig. The gaming rig resamples PCM to DSD512 through HQPlayer and sends it to the network (via an Intel I350-T2V2 and fully Ubiquiti network) to my Holo Red into the May via usb. The computer makes noise but it's in another part of the house and I can't hear it nor do I believe it has any impact on the sound when sent over ethernet into the Red and subsequently the May, both of which are known to have an incredibly robust noise filtering and jitter correction, eliminating the need for a reclocker other fancy USB correction box. https://goldensound.audio/2023/02/09/holo-red-streamer-ddc-measurements/. One day soon I'd like to play around with a high end music streamer/server like Grimm MU1, or even an Aurender n30sa or Taiko Extreme. Also the T+A SD 3100 HV dac looks like a very interesting upgrade path from May+Red. There is always another mountain to climb. Hope this answers your questions! Happy to answer any more you may have.
  9. does anyone here know what this guy is talking about? seems like even AI bots would be more coherent
  10. Didn't find much info on this site at all about this device. Anyone happen to have given it a go and has some thoughts? I'm looking into an all in one dedicated transport (AES out) and this hooks interesting I guess I'd want to know how it compares to the Grimm Audio MU1, Aurender N30SA, and other contenders. thanks!
  11. oh this sounds really good damn, this is the best (cleanest) I've heard these speakers sound thanks!
  12. what exactly does Apod do? how is it dangerous and causes harm?
  13. so I just realized that the speakers I am currently outputting HQplayer > Chord Hugo2 to have their own DAC, even in analog mode genelec 8361a the on board dac is limited to 24/192kHz, so it doesn't make sense to send PCM > chord upsample to 768 to analog > genelec downsample to 192 digital > analog - the sound gets pretty muddy during high intensity pieces. They do not do DSD at all. I since took the chord out of the chain and hooked my holo red directly to the AES and the presentation is much cleaner (I had to boost each speaker output by 12db gain to get the slam I wanted) I know most people here use HQplayer to max out the frequency, but I'm finding it rather enjoyable with the dither compared to not using HQPlayer at all, there is def a huge difference to my ears. I don't see much if any talk about optimizing for 24/192 dacs, but what are optimal settings for my specific setup? I read through the manual and came up with the settings I think make the most sense for my use case: NS9 dither to take advantage of 4x rates (176.4/192) setting the output of HQplayer to 24/192 sinc-long most of the time (sounds the best to my ears from the ones I've tested) sinc-MGa (local FLAC) or poly-sinc gauss-hires-lp (tidal MQA) if I get crazy Apod numbers am I on the right track or missing something? (maybe down the road I'll upgrade to pmc mb2s xbd with pass labs amps and a T+A dac/streamer, but for now, I have to work with what I got, which is already pretty amazing :) thanks!
