  1. I recently brought home a Yggy, I'd been debating it for over a year and was almost convinced not to try it because of the online stigma regarding audio measurements. I'm glad that I decided to try it out and let my ears decide. The Yggy sounds unbelievable in my system, and I can't wait to get a proper amp/headphone amp to support it.
  2. If the harshness of Gen 5 is true, I hope they solve those issues by summer 2019, planning on testing the yggy and possibly picking one up around that time.
  3. I actually considered Genelec 8050s at one point, very nice, thanks
  4. Has anyone tried listening to the Yggy through studio monitors? I wonder what that combo could sound like. Maybe Yggy -> Freya out to monitors for nearfield
  5. Guerph, you are a brave man among mortals. Looking forward to reading your impressions Sent from my HTC One M9 using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  6. Priaptor, I am completely clueless when it comes to powering equipment properly, but isn't the LPS-1 set at 7.5v and the Femto card uses 5v? It doesn't seem like a big difference in voltage to me, but is this okay? Sent from my HTC One M9 using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  7. ShawnC, Emotiva's products do perform at a level that is definitely above what you would expect at the price level, but I must admit that I feel that it is not hard to push the equipment to its limit where you get noticeable digital harshness. After all, at the price level, their gear could be considered entry level by some benchmarks. But it absolutely performs at a higher level than what you would normally get at the price you are paying and I commend them for achieving that level of performance.
  8. john, Very nice, those performance graphs are on another level. I hadn't heard of this company before, yet again, another company to be aware of, will be on the lookout for an opportunity to test this DAC. Thanks!
  9. Wow! Very interesting, I have long read about the Stealth DC-1 performing at a level above its price level, but I don't remember seeing it compete with DAC's at level. I've had mine for 2.5 years, so I think I am pretty familiar with the sound it outputs. I wonder what differences I will hear once I embark on my DAC journey early next year.
  10. To me, the impact of clean power is one of the most exciting areas of our hobby. I feel like we are just beginning to scratch the surface in terms of what tweaks will improve performance the most. Hopefully, the industry will catch on in the near future. It seems like Intona and others are beginnning to tap into that market. Unfortunately, I'm not tech savy enough to build myself a USB cable. Do you have any experience using cables from specialized cable makers like Curious? First one that came into mind, no preference here
  11. Thank you for sharing, Veracity looks like a company that deserves attention, I will keep an eye out for an opportunity to test out their DACs. It is nice to see a DAC advertised more for musicality than objective accuracy. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  12. Yes! I was just reading about the Benchmark DAC 3, it sounds really good on paper. But as I was reading, I kept thinking about previous comments about the sound being sterile or lacking any tone, life. I won't discount it from my testing for now, but I don't think it will be my first choice.
  13. Very interesting, I will keep that in mind while trying out the Yggy. I might end up liking the gumby more! More $$ doesn't always necessarily mean "better" or more "appealing" sound, that's a good mantra to live by for fans of this industry.
  14. From my personal experience, I think it pays to be safe and listen to your computer builder. Unfortunately, computers have a lot of key parts that are vulnerable to electrical disturbances; motherboards and processors to are the big 2, and a severe enough electrical disturbance could fry either one. You can always clean out any nasty electricity from the chain once the signal has left your PC or use something like the VBUS2. My PC is never plugged directly into the wall, always into an UPC. I take a lot of precautions with my PC since PCs have a lot of time, energy and money invested in them. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Computer Audiophile mobile app
