  1. If you can find me any form of reputed engineer that will state that sound, SPL is measured in watts, then I'm all ears. As for now, take care CA.
  2. Here's the link again for those who missed it. https://schoolofsoundpresentation.wordpress.com/2014/05/14/school-of-sound-presentation-daytona-beach-2011/ [h=3]Decibels dB[/h]53:15 – dB 54:10 – What is dB relative to? 54:25 – Anechoic chamber 56:48- What does Decibel mean? 59:15 – dB test – 1dB increase – 1dB increase takes 25% more power 1:00:30 – 3 dB change – double the power needed 1:02:55 – 6 dB change – 4 times the power needed 1:04:00 – 10 dB change – perceived doubling of sound – 10 time the power needed 1 Watt, two speakers, one that 101 dB efficient and another that's 84 dB efficient and you're telling me that a 2 watt amp with a speaker that has an efficiency of 84 dB is going to sound louder? Good luck with that. A watt is a measurement of power from an electrical source. Sound, loudness, is measured in decibels not by electricity. If that were the case, then what you're telling me is that violins, brass instruments, our own voices, a jumbo-jet taking off, a 4" exhaust from a ricer aren't measurable because non of them are hooked up to an electrical source? Interesting theory. On a last note - WATT
  3. Some often translate that this ( ) needs a gazillion watts to operate.
  4. There seems to be some basic misinformation here: 1) A Watt is not a measurement of sound! 2) There is no harm in under-powering your speakers. The problem comes when one turns up an under-powered amp, which then sends the signal into clipping. 3) Low bass notes do not need more power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS-pdupmNYg There are various factors that come into play when reproducing lower octaves. Generally it's understood that two major factors are cone area (SD) and excursion are needed to reproduce the same SPL figure in the extreme lower octaves, although some people have a problem determining the difference between xmax and excursion The enclosure contributes to the depth of bass as well ... Go look, it's all there, clipping, power handling, power myths, etc https://schoolofsoundpresentation.wordpress.com/2014/05/14/school-of-sound-presentation-daytona-beach-2011/
  5. You just have to watch out for clipping, that's what kills a speaker quickly.
  6. Isn't this simply a new/hybrid form of AMT? This might be off the beaten path but i think Clarion are already part way there. - This might be even more off the beaten path, but what about something designed on this principle, which could be adapted as a hybrid version of an AMT
