Similar to Replay gain yes. Basically our field workers will be recording in Goldwave using DirectSound and a USB mic. So we've limited the gain stages but they could still adjust levels within the software. I'm looking for software or s a solution that locks them out, or includes what the microphonr gain setting was at time of recording D - not the real Dave Perry but have played MDK

Probably not the right place for this, but I'm sure you chaps will point me in the right direction. We have to send out 'non-technical' field workers to make short recordings in potential recording environments (hotel rooms, offices etc). They'll have a Windows laptop and a UMIK usb mic. Is there a simple way piece of software that 'locks' the record input gain, OR is there a piece of software that includes record gain info within metadata? Cheers DP
