  1. Thanks so much for the info and explaining to everybody what I am doing. Yeah, I tried playing with the settings a bit when that DSD file wouldn't play, but I couldn't get it to work. I am not overly concerned about that part as I only have a few actual DSD files. I can hear a difference when I just output JRiver to the DAC versus sending it to foo_dsd_asio (sorry about not inserting the dsd part), but that still doesn't tell me if it is doing the conversion. I think it is, but I just wanted to make sure. However, if there is a way to play mp3 files and streams using the HQPlayer pcm to dsd conversion, I would like to do that. My understanding is that this cannot currently be done, except Tidal via Roon. I am not impressed with Roon, so that is not an option. And that would still only cover Tidal anyway.
  2. That's cool mate. I wish my dac had a similar feature. It doesn't; hence this thread.
  3. Nope, the request was simply: How can I make sure that foo_asio is doing the pcm to dsd conversion and not simply outputting pcm. Really don't understand why the request itself is so difficult to comprehend.
  4. Sure it does. I don't need arguments as to the validity of the method and "Prove IT!" responses. JRiver to foo_asio is working, I want to verify if foo_asio is doing what I told it to do. No more comments on JRiver can't do that. Just stay out of the thread or admins can just close it.
  5. Well, maybe it is something wrong with my system, but it is too unstable. Just maxed both buffers to 500 without any change. Thanks for the suggestion though. This is what I had experienced before trying to get JRiver to upconvert streams a few years ago. The response from JRiver at the time was "unsupported with no plans to implement such functionality". So, back to the original topic, can anyone help?
  6. Very cool. I just tried it, and it basically works though seems a bit crackly at times. Thanks. However, using foo_asio as an output for JRiver is something I learned about from this very site. I would still like to confirm if it is working as intended or not. To clarify, PCM content does play when foo_asio is set as the output, and foo_asio is set to output to my DAC. I just wanted to confirm if foo_asio is actually converting to DSD or not and why I lost playback when JRiver switched from a PCM track to a DSD track.
  7. Thanks, but I was asking for information on how to confirm foo_asio operation. I am aware of what JRiver can and cannot do, and it cannot convert streams, only your actual locally based files.
  8. I have a Resonessence Herus DAC for music and a Steinberg UR22 for production purposes, which really means I got that just for the low-latency ASIO driver when using my Push controller or keyboard controller. The Herus doesn't let you change sample buffers, so too much latency. Anyway, the Herus just has a single headphone 1/4 TRS stereo out, so I didn't have a way to connect it to the Adam monitors yet. So, I was using the UR22 for the moment, connected via 1/4 to XLR. I just went an got a TRS stereo to RCA out splitter at Radio Shack, so the Herus is connected via RCA and the UR22 is still connected. I am looking forward to some A/Bing after I get caught up on work. Yeah, so I am wondering if I should get a preamp to connect the Herus via RCA to get balanced XLR output to the monitors or if I should just get a new DAC. Software side, I use JRiver. Even if I stream Tidal or something, it does through JRiver so I can apply the DSP settings to the signal. The Herus does DSD, so I also have foo_asio setup so that JRiver sends to foo_asio for PCM to DSD conversion, which then goes to the Herus. Not sure if it is working correctly though...
  9. Hello, I found some info on this site regarding the use of foo_asio to convert streams such as Tidal or Spotify to DSD in real time. However, I have the Resonessence Herus DAC, and it provides no software monitor or hardware display to tell you what it is doing. How do I know if it is working and not just outputting the PCM received from JRiver? Also, just a few minutes ago, when an actual DSD file in my JRiver library played out to foo_asio, nothing happened---I stopped hearing any playback. Any ideas on what is wrong?
  10. Hey guys, thanks for the continued suggestions. The more these monitors break in, the more I like them. Really don't think a sub is necessary. The best part is, even listening at high volumes for shorts amount of time does not hurt my ears. All the parts of music like too much sheen, metallic sounds, too much echo, screechy sounds, etc. don't bother me so much. Sometimes, these sounds are even pleasant now. Having said that however, if anyone has suggestions that are actually better than these monitors while retaining this amazing ability not to be fatiguing, please let me know. Seems to me that it is going to be hard to beat the ribbon tweeter on that front. Thinking about getting some basic room treatments and made a preamp or some other way to get balanced connections to these monitors. That new iFi ican Pro looks interesting.
  11. Well, I went to Guitar Center to listen to what they had available, and then I went to the Magneplan dealer. Unfortunately, the Magneplan dealer doesn't carry the desktop system, they basically said they have no interest in it. They could order it for me if I wanted. So, the JBL 305 and 308 did sound really good. I really like what the wave guide does for the treble. However, A/B-ing it with the Adam's and the cheaper of the Focal's they had (Alpha 50 and 65), they just didn't match up. I tried to convince myself that once I brought them home, I would forget how the more expensive one's sounded, but that didn't work out too well. I was actually leaning more toward the Alpha 65's there for about 30 minutes, but noticed a lot more sibilance with the Focal's. Bad recordings were sibilant on the Adam's too though, but I was really starting to dig their sound, which seemed to also have more body. So, I went ahead and picked up a pair of the A7X's. Made sure I can bring them back though after listening at home. Just starting listening for about an hour, and I am really impressed. The bass seems much better than their advertised specification of 42 Hz. Of course, I have to use parametric EQ in JRiver to pull the bass out, but I have to do that with everything. Before I took them out of the box, I was doing more reading and seriously starting to think I need to return these for the A5X or maybe even the Eve SC05 and get a sub to go along with it, but these A7X's might actually be enough, and I listed to EDM, dubstep, and other bass-heavy music. I still wonder if it would sound better having a proper sub, even if it's level was turned down really low instead relying on the parametric EQ. I am still curious about those magneplan's as well, but not enough to pay for shipping and back just to participate in their trial program. Curious about Eve's too, but doesn't seem to be as available here in the US as in Europe, so not likely to be able to hear them. So far though, really digging this ribbon tweeter.
  12. That looks really interesting! There is a dealer here in Dallas, so I will check those out as soon as I can finish my current project. I am a little confused on why they bother with a huge woofer piece effectively making a 2.1 system that only goes down to 40. I also don't really get why this woofer can play up to 5 kHz if it supposed to be under the desk. Still seems very interesting, and I am definitely going to check it out.
  13. Thanks for the recommendation, but I just tried to look those up, and they seem to be a discontinued item?
