  1. Well, if you read the article in the link above, the author indicates that Daphile bypasses Alsa and Pulsaudio, but I am not a Linux expert so I can't confirm this and you may be right. I was comparing the setup of NUC/Daphile with MacBook/Audirvana and there I noticed an improvement. I know it is not an honest comparison as it all depends how you setup Audirvana but it was my first observation.
  2. I tested Daphile on a Intel NUC and modified the BIOS to fully bypass the LINUX Core Audio services. The SQ is really good and much better than Audirvana on my MacBook Pro. Now that Audirvana will be released on Windows 10, will we be able to tweak the system more than under OSX ?
  3. Another option is to purchase a refurbished MacBook mid 2012. This is the last model that has a built in CD player. I use the player to read in cd's from my collection into iTunes and the occasional CD's that I still buy. These models with full warranty can still be bought from the Apple Store. I run Audirvana and Dirac live from it and there are no performance issues. Be sure to include an SSD. With this you have the user interface and CD reader in one. 4. I am running Audirvana with Qobuz and Dirac Live. The MacBook USB output goes to a iFi iUSB 3.0 device and then to a Chord 2Qute DAC. I upsample in Audirvana to 192kHz before sending it to Dirac Live. I asked Qobuz if they stream music in high res format and they confirmed that but I am not sure about it. However I am pleased with the quality as it is now and moved recently from Tidal because of the music selection offered with Qobuz. Sent from my iPad using Computer Audiophile
  5. I purchased a refurbished MacBook from 2012. It was the last model with built-in CD player. I ripped al my CD's into iTunes and then play them with Audirvana. The output of Audirvana goes to Dirac Audioprocessor that compensates for room acoustics. The output of Dirac goes to the 2Qute DAC. Music is stored on the Mac SSD and I disconnect the Mac from the mains when I play music. I think this set up is very clean and gives you maximum flexibility. A refurbished MacBook is as expensive as a good CD transport. I can play all formats including DSD. My amps are Hegel and speakers Sonus Faber Olympica III.
  6. Ok. Thank you. I do have the UMIK-1 and I measured the response with REW. Later when I am able to do a calibration with the UMIK-1 in horizontal position I will compare the results. Maybe it is not a significant difference. Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile
  7. Indeed. I am using filters created with DLCT 1.1 and they work. However I made de measurements with the microphone in the upright position while I learned later that for a stereo set up the mike has to face towards the speakers. I know it may be nitty gritty but we all want to make it perfect, right? Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile
  8. I have the same issue and was advised to download version 1.1. However I am not able to install that version for some reason so I decided to wait till a new version 1.3 will be released. Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile
  9. I am still discussing with the carpenter as he said that he does not have a laser cutter to make the side vent holes. I will go for one large opening on the side that mirrors the one on the top. Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile
  10. It is a good combination but I did some acoustic measurements and in the low region there are some ups and downs. Higher up the frequency curve is reasonably flat. The bamboo casing of the amp does not match the walnut case of the Focal's so I went to a carpenter today and asked him if he could make a American walnut case. I like the overall sound it is nice and warm but not too warm. I was tying to find out which military version of the EL84 was used but I have no idea at the moment. For the rest I really happy with this set. Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile
  11. I just read in another forum where the designers of the amp were explaining their design considerations that the traditional BBC LS3/5 speakers are not a good match. So I cancelled the order and ordered the Focal Aria 906 and I got them for a good price.
  12. I forgot to mention that I choose to go for the Falcon Acoustics since I like the speakers to have a walnut wood finish for a nice retro look. I also intend to make a new case for the amp with similar walnut wood finish. I have my inspiration from here: Fisher - Audio Cabinets
  13. I just ordered the amp without the speakers and decided to go for the Falcon Acoustics LS 3/5a speakers. Although they are not very sensitive, these BBC style speakers seem to go well with tube amps. I purchased the loudspeakers as a kit in the UK and with the UK Pound on a low exchange rate I think it is an attractive combination. It will take some time to assemble the speakers but I will give a review when everything is up and running.
  14. I was contacted by customer support that they are working on a new release that would resolve this problem. Let's hope it will come soon.
  15. I was doing a new set of requirements today with a fully license activated configuration and the new filters cause DAP to crash. I am running the latest versions of Dirac Live and DAP. All filters that I created with the evaluation versions are running fine. I saw the same behaviour in an earlier post (Powerquality 5-22-2016) but cannot repair it as he did. Any ideas to resolve this|?
