  1. It's not the only parameter for sure but IMO, it is 1 of the major aspects to pay attention to in choosing a good linear power supply. Is it not the replacement of the noisy SMPS with an LPS that results in improved sound quality that people are reporting here? Eliminating as much noise in the supply that feeds the Mutecs is what brings those details in the music out in the open that is being masked so a low noise lps is a good thing here.
  2. Sure that will work but I will still try to use a Linear Power Supply that has the lowest noise possible. I am not an expert but from my limited understanding is that the MC3's clocks or any devices with clocks for that matter will respond and perform at it's best when fed with a very good LPS with the lowest noise regulator output that you can find.
  3. Here is the link to an image of a DIY LPS using 2 LT3042's. This was built by Muziqboy and is powering 2 of his Mutecs. Both these guys @johnjen and @Muziqboy were the guys experimenting with replacing the smps in their Rednet 3's and Mutecs and reported sound quality increases in their systems that was not subtle. Stunning sound quality as I have also experienced by also performing the surgery on my Rednet3 and Mutec following their experimentations. Highly recommended! https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-diyrs-cookbook.781268/page-73#post-13459530
  4. The MC3+ USB can be powered with just 5v @1A. I found some info on Head-Fi where some folks over there were experimenting with LPS to power the Mutec and followed their path with a DIY ultra low noise 5V output regulator (LT3042 @ just .8uV of noise) with an R-core transformer purchased from ebay and the sound I got after the mods of the MC3+ USB was just stunning.
  5. About the EITR, I've read in the Head-Fi forums that Mike M of Schiit explored the benefits of galvanic isolation from the postings of folks over there who have been using AOIP (Rednets) as their transport between PC and DAC. This is the interface I am using and was quite shocked at the vast improvement in SQ. I have no intention of ever going back to usb interface as a result.
  6. By the way, I am also on the AOIP bandwagon and currently running a Rednet 3, LiveClock and Mutec MC3+ USB all modified with LPS's and I agree with those folks on HeadFi that it was a major leap in SQ. The best that I'm hearing from computer audio ever. Sometime next week will be receiving a Stanford Research PERF10 Rubidium clock with the optional 12VDC input so it can also benefit from the use of an external LPS. CA is a little late with this network audio thing since it was all explored and pioneered on Head-fi last year, Thanks no less to you rb2013 and a few daring folks who experimented on it over there.
  7. I've been quietly reading the AOIP and DIY thread on Head-Fi and was not a bit surprised when those folks who are pushing the limits of it by replacing the PS of their units with external LPS's was rewarded with improved sound quality. I know for a fact that SMPS are noisy power supplys and no match for Linear supply's. I also read some of those guys using LPS's on their LiveClocks and Mutec MC3 units and were reporting increased dynamics, clarity and realism. Since you mentioned that you had a Rednet unit before, I was just wondering if you would have a different opinion if you had the chance to replace it's internal PS with an LPS and then connect it to your Tube DACs.
  8. Question for all you Mutec 3+ USB experts, I am currently running my 3+ usb as an AES/EBU reclocker for a cd transport and was thinking of adding a 10MHZ rubidium clock like the Antelope Audio 10MX, so if I do this it will no longer be using the internal clocks of the Mutec like the 1G clock and instead will use the 10Mhz rubidium clock of the Antelope am I correct?
  9. Pls. do report your impressions of the RedNet as I am really intrigued by this technology. I have been quietly following this thread in the background and absorbing all this information about AOIP.
