  1. Great album, though I'm slightly partial to his earlier 'Ahmad's Blues' (which I've long used as my audio 'test track'). Another Jamal release I really enjoy (among many) is "At the Top: Poinciana Revisited, Live at the Village Gate" from 1968. If you like this sort of piano playing, be sure to check out Phineas Newborn Jr's "A World Of Piano!" from 1961. Quite an obscure artist, he was the equal if not better than Jamal, but with a spotty career due to health issues. Another is Herbie Nichols, who passed away in 1963. I recommend his three disc Complete Blue Note Recordings.
  2. I use the Cisco AOC between a first gen oM and an oR. Works great and best sound so far among the SFP's I've tried.
  3. Thank you @DuckToller I've been doing so many interviews lately I forgot about this one!
  4. OEM Cisco AOC is better, smoother, and bigger sounding. You'll have to research the compatibility (should be fine, as I'm running it from my 1G opticalModule to 1G opticalRendu).
  5. Sounds like some kind of neurological issue that stems from the ears. Does loud noise that's not music cause any issue? Are you exposed to a very loud noise before this started to happen? I would probably skip your normal doctor (GP) and go straight to an ear doctor and/or neurologist, as whatever it is it's most likely very rare.
  6. Oh, yeah QSR, I've been there. I don't like being burned at the stake for actually LISTENING to a piece of gear, though.
  7. You know you can get OEM ones on eBay for anywhere from $25-75. (I think I paid about $35 for mine). Seems like Afterdark are pretty great tapping into the networking/clocking FOMO and people falling for it. Caveat Emptor.
  8. Well, if only you'd gotten that EE degree in community college twenty five years ago, you'd know for an incontrovertible fact that bits are bits, everything is galvanically isolated, and absolutely nothing in the digital domain could ever possibly change the sound and that the rest of us are all delusional. /s
  9. Geez, I wonder where we've heard this before? Maybe he should start his own forum, Q-audiophile....
  10. I'd add another thing to Mike's list, and that's if one knows they need to monkey with the network and/or pull a 'Rendu from their system, be sure to power it down from the sonicorbiter GUI first, and then one can typically avoid the network headaches later when re-inserting it.
  11. The Cisco AOC works in the Sonore products (I'm using one between oM and oR). Where it won't work, is in many older and non-X model Cisco switches, even all 1GB ones like my 2960, so best to look at their compatibility chart if planning on using it in one of those.
  12. I think a lot of the lasting power of some bands, and in particular Nirvana, is what is known as the transmutation of the lyrics. They can be about anything, or any emotion you want, just shout along in gibberish! I know I do...
  13. I think you could drop the 'now' part of your statement above.
  14. I'm actually playing via Audio Physic Classic Compact speakers, which are much better than the KEF. I've done a bit of speaker repositioning and tamed things down a bit. The clarity in 2.9 is pretty stunning, and may just take some time to adjust too. It does have me playing at a lower volume, which isn't a bad thing...
  15. Ok, maybe I'll give it a try again. Only played for an hour, and could only stand it at a lower volume than I'm used to. I just wish I could swap cards without having to reboot the router etc...
