  1. Thank you both for these posts. I currently have an SA 14, which so far works fine with my iMac and El Capitain. I'm only now experimenting with Sierra, and it seems to be okay there two, with and without Audrivana Plus (version 2.x) Sorry, what is "Eitr" ? I am very interested in hearing more about the SA10. For me, SACD's (some of them) sound really excellent on the SA14, but most CD's don't match to my LP setup. Any idea how the SA10 would compare to the SA14? I know it used a completely different approach to the DAC, but how does that pay off?

  3. I know nothing about this system, but thought I should point out the possibility: Welcome to Sugar Cube Maybe someone here knows something about it. I met one of the founders at a jazz concert some years back.
  4. Patricia Barber is an example of an artist who cares about sound quality. She says that there will soon be a new release of her playing live at the Green Mill, for download in high rez format. Most of her music (CD's, SACD's, and LP's,) is very well recorded, as I'm sure is well known
  5. Has anyone had any issues with the new Mac OS that just came out? For example, Audirvana warns that Direct Mode will no longer work. (but Integer Mode may). How much of an issue is that? Rumors assert that some previous mac updates have made the DAC in the Marantz SA11s3 no longer work; any similar information here? Thanks in advance.
  6. You might also consider the Eclipse TD-M1. Similar in function to the KEEF Egg, but more expensive and some say better: https://www.avforums.com/review/KEF-egg-digital-music-system-review.12336 i am fairly happy with my pair. (Some convenience issues, mostly.) Recommended by the legendary Jim Anderson (recording engineer).
  7. Here is a trimmed version of my post on the PS Audio forum. 1. It would not work with the receiver unit connected to the ethernet port of my Airport Express. Perhaps the latter is too old and only has a half-duplex connection. 2. It works with the DAC in my Eclipse TD-M1 desktop speakers, but only at reduced resolutions. (not more that 48.2 KHz). 3.It works with the DAC in my Marantz SA-14SA1, but not in precisely the same way it does with a direct USB connection. ITunes will play music, but one has to reset the resolution in the Audio Midi controller to 192 or less. 4. It seemed at first not to work with the Marantz and Audirvana. Experimentation showed a surprising result, that it works with some oversampling rates but not others. In particular: None: no sound Power of 2: no sound 2x only: works DoP DSD 64: works. DoP DSD 128 works. So this is not a simple plug-and-play solution. No comments on the sound from yet, and probably there won't be any.
  8. Not totally fuss free in my experience, unfortunately. How well it works seems to depend on the DAC and software you are using.
  9. yes, it's a an old Powermac G4 chip, with only 1GB of RAM. I have seen some software solutions say they allow a USB device connected to Macintosh A to be seen by Macintosh B if both are on the same local network Maybe in that way I could just use the Mini as a USB bridge. hmmm.
  10. Update to my previous post; I checked, and our old mac mini is way too old even to try out with Audirvana. Probably the USB extender is the best way forward, unless someone else has other suggestions.
  11. I'm sorry, I may not have made my status as ignorant newbie clear enough. What is the freeway you have in mind? What I can do now is experiment with an old mac mini that we have lying around. I don't think it is powerful enough to run Audirvana very well, so probably going that route would require a new one. The only really inexpensive alternative I have now is to use a long USB cord from my iMac to the USB DAC in the Marantz which I would have to plug in on an as needed basis. I'm not thrilled with the idea of a USB extender and noise isolated---seems to require four boxes---but I think that is the next thing to try, (maybe without the isolators). I'm surprised that there is no equivalent of the Airport Express that has a useable USB output. (I may have read somewhere that it is possible to make hardware mod on the AE that fixes that). However, even if that did exist, it is not clear to me that the software would recognize the DAC properly.
  12. Thanks. I don't know much about this. Can Audirvana handle DLNA mode? (It doesn't seem to be in the manual.)
  13. i appreciate this suggestion; but I'm not sure it will work. I had earlier considered using the microrendu, which seems to be similar to the Sonicorbiter SE in capability but a bit more expensive. However it seems that those solutions lock you into only a few possible modes, Roon, Airplay, etc. (some of which I don't understand). I don't think any of them are compatible with Audirvana's DSD mode. (Please correct me if I am wrong.)
  14. Thanks. This solution looks promising. I looked at the website for more information. I had hoped I could, at least as a start, connect to the ethernet port of an Airport Extreme, but this may not be possible. It seems that one end has to to go to a real computer. Can you confirm?
  15. Let's see. Then does Audirvna plus run on the Mac Mini (which would be headless, I guess controlled by screensharing) or on the iMac? I think HQ player would be another possibility. Comments on that? With regard to the logitech suggestion, does that have USB output too, or just optical and coax? I think the latter are limited to 96 Khz.
