  1. Hey, I've been using an Auralic Altair for a while and while I find it good when it works. It's the most unreliable device I have ever used. It will work for a few days but at other times DS Lightning shows 'no device'. It's problematic setting it up because when it gets to the bit where I need to pick my internet setting it just shows as scanning forever ( I'm in serviced apartment so it seems to get confused by the sheer number of wifi setups and I never have the opportunity to select my own). Auralic have given me a few other things to try which work sometimes but to be honest - I just want to listen to music and not waste my time. The dealer I bought from isn't responsive and the local dealer has dumped Auralic. I just want to get a device up and running that is bulletproof streaming off a hard drive. An internal DAC isn't necessary as I can use my Chord DAC. Is Aurender more reliable than Auralic?
  2. Thanks all. Everything is working now. Amazing forum. Happy New Year
  3. Thanks all. Have purchased a router and will set it up tonight. The internet is sporadic because I live in a serviced apartment and the connection is just awful (it's tested at one percent of the normal speed for my area). Hopefully I can get everything running smoothly soon.
  4. Hi there, I'm having major issues with my internet connection which is sporadic at best. I'm trying to sort things out with my ISP but there is a chance I won't have a reliable internet connection for the foreseeable future. In general I can live with this except that I don't have an option to stream music. I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a router and set up my own LAN for playing music. I have a Synology 216+ NAS and an Auralic Altair. I'm happy to just use the Altair as a DAC and pickup another streamer if it's easier to connect. Willing to take a small hit in audio quality to have this sorted. I should be able to log into the internet for updates etc required but the signal isn't good enough for streaming FLAC from the NAS Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated
  5. For those that have this DAC and have compared it with the original QuteDac, can I please ask: Does it present voices on the same way? I've listened to a lot of DACs and I like the way my DAC puts the voice in front of the music. Is the resolution much better? The QuteDac is still great but I also have an Auralic Altair which pulls a lot more detail out of the music. It's amazing but I'm just not sold on it. Also-curious if anyone has made comparisons with the Hugo TT which looks great but I'm not so fond of it using a battery module. Thanks
  6. Cheers. I'll have a look. I got it working as a DAC again and have being back-to-back listening to it against other DACs. It's an interesting experience. the Auralic is definitely drier sounding than Metrum and Chord. Really wish I could throw a T+A DAC 8 DSD into the mix.
  7. I got mine a while back and have been listening to it as just a DAC vs my QuteDac and Metrum Octave. It definitely puts out less bass that the other two. Anyway, I decided to get it going as a streamer yesterday. The Lightning DS app gets as far as the bit when you are meant to select your home LAN but unfortunately the app just keeps scanning and although I can see my router I can't click on it. The Altair just sits there now looking for a network and won't even act as a DAC. Have tried numerous resets and reinstalls of the app. Auralic support is quite responsive and I'll probably get a solution at some stage (also need to check the booklet again) however I suspect I won't be keeping the Altair. Ps how do you add pics with an iPhone?
  8. Cheers Wisnon/TubeLove. My budget can move a little. The Auralic dealer in HK is also an Aurender dealer. So hopefully I can arrange a back to back listen
  9. I haven't at this stage but thanks for the suggestion. I actually have an Antipodes server somewhere in the apartment. But my wife doesn't like the look of it. I think I need something with a build in display, easy access to internet radio etc. sbank - I had a look at the Sonore. It looks impressive.
  10. I am looking to upgrade from streaming my music through an Apple T.V. Currently I have a Chord 'Chordette' DAC and a Metrum Octave that I can use with a streamer, and I'll upgrade my DAC later in the year. I'd be streaming mostly from a NAS or via Tidal or Spotify. I'd like something that is highly compatible with various musical formats/software e.g. DSD, Roon etc. So, I am guessing that contenders are the Auralic Aires, Airles- LE and upcoming Altair. Possibly one of the Lumins or the Cambridge Audio 851N. I am particularly interested in the Altair for the built-in DAC and because, to me, it 'looks' better than the Aires (i.e. keeps my other-half happy). Clearly all will be much better than what I am currently using I'd be really grateful to know what else is out there that I should consider (I have been reading a fair bit but the more I read the more confused I get e.g. trying to work out whether MQA will be advantageous or not.
