Hi. Maybe a bit late but I have built similar systems using an AMD 7600 with 32GB DDR5 6ghz. Supports much better clock frequencies and lower tdp. The AMD sound is more 'organic' than intel. Motherboard was a MSI B650m mortar wifi. I used a hacksaw to lower the heatsink by the CPU power connector. I bought a 200w LPSU from Aliexpress BRZHIFI Qingfeng 200W HTPC HD player/NAS with 19V/12V high current linear power supply - AliExpress. Also for added cooling a cooper cooler to add to the top of the cpu cooler 50x50x15mm Pure Copper Heatsink DIY Heat Sink Radiator Cooling Cooler for Raspberry pi Electronic 3D printer CHIP IC MOS Heat dissipation - AliExpress. I had to cut the corners and attached it using CPU paste. I also added a PCIe OCXO USB card for connectivity to the DAC. Was better than the JCAT USB XE which I sold. My latest venture for HQPlayer and Roon under windows 11 is an amd 7600x, nh-d15s cooler, 32GB DDR5 6ghz ram and RTX4070 GPU in a coolermaster silencio S400 case and ASUS ROG 750w PSU. Supports HQplayer DSD1024. Added a 8tb Samsung SSD for music. I also use it for video using Emby, MPC-BE and MADVR and added a second Samsung 8tb SSD for video files. MADVR 4k upsacaling works a treat.

Assuming a revealing back end then what is more important - Hqplayer or the DAC? Given you can buy a reasonable dsd512 DAC for $300 then is configuring a dsd512 capable hqplayer more beneficial than spending $2000 on a better quality DAC? What comes first, a good quality DAC or dsd512 capable hqplayer system. I've found a rtx4070 and 5ghz CPU is good for dsd1024. Rtx4060ti for dsd512. The rtx5060 is expected to have significantly more ram than the 4060 8gb and should be good for dsd512.

I (topping e50) and a friend (singxer su6 to Holo may) are having an issue with windows hqp 5,1.3 and roon. when trying to set sdm (dsd) output hqp keeps reverting to pcm playback. I finally resolved the issue by setting the input to 'none' although when I looked at it after a save it had returned to 'dop'. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

My bad. The settings worked after he did the restart. Thanks for a fantastic product. We are all getting a lot of enjoyment hearing details we didn't know existed

Thanks Miska. The settings didn't work with the result hqplayer froze and had to be restarted.

Please help. I have a client with a 7600x CPU and rtx4070 GPU. His USB DAC is currently limited to dop dsd128. His music preference is classic rock and blues. What hqplayer 5.3 settings do you recommend. We tried the new modulators and they wouldn't work.

Thanks for the update. The 7600x struggles when trying dsd1024 for the Holo may. Miska has expressed reservations on hqplayer running on AMD with windows. So the question is do I upgrade to the 7950x (or the more recent 7950x3d) or do I move to Intel which is known to work. I realise that in moving to Intel I will need to add water cooling. The 7950x costs the same as a i9 14900k.

I have an AMD mobo with 7600x and rtx4090 and want to get the best from my Holo May. I was initially looking at a 7950x or 7950x3d but given I am locked into Windows think I may be better off with a i9 14900k. Please can someone confirm moving to the i9 will realise a much better gain than staying with AMD. With AMD and the AM5 socket i could upgrade to the next gen late next year but rumour has it their clock freq is going to be reduced. WIth Intel I believe the 15 gen CPU will require a new socket and mobo.
