  1. Even with MusicBrainz metadata turned off AS still analyzes your local files once. So its one long analysis when you first point AS to your local library and then a very quick analysis when you add an album. It would be nice if it never did it. But ultimately its all worth it as I haven't heard a better player. I stopped using MusicBee (w/ Fidelizer Pro and Process Lasso) and I only spent a couple of hours with Roon before dumping it. Roon was a big disappointment. Audio quality and their metadata.
  2. One of my favorites from 1991 is Teenage Fanclub's Bandwagonesque. It was Spin magazine's #1 for 1991. https://www.albumoftheyear.org/list/293-spins-20-best-albums-of-1991/
  3. On the bottom of page 6 of the User's Manual: You can restart to return back to normal if you have trouble. For Fidelizer Pro, please run again, select Consumer level and Fidelize before restart.
  4. I understand your rationale for using the stock tubes that come with the Freya. But they hold the preamp back. You need to get some good NOS tubes in the Freya to hear it's true performance. I put the stock tubes away permanently.
  5. I completely agree. I upgraded to 8.0 and your comments on "sharper, cleaner and seems to have more dynamics" are spot on. I have been playing some of my key music that I use to judge if upgrades/tweaks have improved the sound and Fidelizer 8.0 is a winner. Anyone using Windows should try it.
  6. I don't understand what you are upset about. What response are you expecting from Jason? If you are expecting "professional" reviews they could be a long wait or never. I own Schiit Eitr, Freya, Yggy and 2 Vidars. The only one that has "professional" reviews is the Yggy. I based my purchases on info from audio forums, including this one. I have been more than satisfied with every purchase. My vidars are performing flawlessly driving my Spatial M3 Triode Masters (mono mode). While waiting for CA's review: http://www.audiophool.org/blog/index.php/2017/08/30/schiit-vidar-power-amplifier/
  7. And I was told that mono mode would show these issues more readily. It would be interesting if Chris tried the cables that did not work with a single Vidar.
  8. Nick at Schiit said that cable issues are more common with shorter, not longer cables. So I am a bit baffled that a 10 ga. 15 ft. cable would cause a capacitance issue, but not the short one. I attribute it to cable damage as the meter showed crosstalk where there should have been none with a signal from a battery operated meter. The increased current capability is the answer I got from Schiit. If you are now only driving one channel in mono, versus driving two channels, I would call that increased current capability. The specs in stereo are 100 watts @ 8 ohms, in mono they are 400 watts @ 8 ohms.
  9. I had a similar experience. I had a pair of Signal Cable Ultras (6 ft & 15 ft) that I used with a Class D Audio SDS-470 with no issues. I first replaced it with a single Vidar with no issues. But when I went to 2 Vidars, I could not get either of them to work with the 15 ft. cable. So I temporarily rigged up bare wire and it worked. I used a Fluke meter at work and the 15 ft cable had a very small amount of leakage between the 2 wires. Not enough to be a short, but enough to register on the meter. My other cable (6 ft) showed nothing. Nick, Schiit tech support, through a series of emails, said that the Vidar in Mono will show greater sensitivity to cable issues due to the increased current capability. Nick was very helpful and patient. In the meantime, I have put in another 6 ft. Signal Cable Ultra with no problems. I did not detect any damage in the longer cable, but it went along the front of my fireplace. So I suspect I dropped a log on it at some point. If you can, test the cables with a meter. You may find the results very interesting.
  10. The main point I am deriving from this discussion of different cables lengths is that I would never want to own a stereo amp that would be impacted by a cable length difference. Of course, if I stay with mono amps, then it would never be an issue.
  11. My old setup had a 6 ft. and a 15 ft. pair of speaker cables. My current setup has speaker cables that are the same length - 6 ft. I have read that speaker length differences have to be extreme; longer than anything you might see in a home stereo system before any capacitance or inductance issues would appear.
  12. Don't forget the Increased sound stage, particularly depth. But you need speakers that can take advantage of this. My Spatial M3 Triode Masters are open baffle so their sound stage is different than box speakers. My speakers are toed in with the outer edge 58" and the inner edge 53" from the back wall. They are 7.5 ft. apart.
  13. Everything that I heard (quickly described in my previous post) as an improvement over my previous amp when using a single Vidar was slightly better when using 2. I would not say the any frequency improvement alone would justify going mono. The improvements I heard are first the increased soundstage. Performer and instrument placement is fantastic. Second, even though the clarity with one amp is excellent, there is a subtle increased ease to the sound with two amps. Possibly they stay in Class A more. Clarity = realness. There are other factors that convinced me to keep both. When using 1 Vidar at my normal volume (low 80 db) I got the volume knob past 2 o'clock. Using 2 Vidars, the volume knob is a little before 12 o'clock. I want plenty of headroom for the gatherings I have when the system is pushed to almost painful levels. The guys like to come over to play music at levels they can't do at home. That goes along with the heat factor. The last factor is I have consistently read that the best setup is to go balanced to mono amps so the amps are closer to your speakers allowing for shorter speaker cables. One speaker is close to my rack, so those cables stayed the same (2 ft. XLR, 6 ft. speaker). But for the other one I put in a 15 ft. XLR and replaced the old 15 ft. speaker cable with a 6 ft. I could have gone shorter, but I want slack to play with speaker placement. I hope this was helpful.
  14. Seeing the return charge was only $35 and I have inexpensive shipping from my work, I bought 2 Vidars. I tested first with a single Vidar (replacing a Class D Audio SDS-470) and it easily outclassed it in every category. But using 2 Vidars was even better driving my Spatial M3 Triode Masters. The 2nd Vidar was not returned. The main improvements heard over my old amp were increased soundstage, particularly in depth and clarity. The leading edge of percussive instruments (drums, acoustic guitars, etc.) really stand out. The other benefit of 2 Vidars is each one only gets warm. You can leave your hand on top of it. My initial testing with a single Vidar went for several hours and it got hot enough I could not leave my hand on top of it.
