  1. Thanks again I'm not averse to a modest need for a fan. Itd vary with distance from the pc and your personal tolerance, but at what TDP might fan noise be audible? I'd guess maybe 40, what do you think? I hadnt heard of the dh77df. Apart from knowing of the CAPS, I only started looking into mini ITX a couple of days ago. I'd think its one of the lesser number of areas of more rapid development in PCs. Does WHS 2012 have any benefits over 2011, as a media server? And your thoughts on NUC? There's a Haswell NUC board coming out next month, but the Gigabyte Kabini Brix is a lot less money, and if the PC is away from the listener probably ok for noise Cheers
  2. Hi I'd previously read about the Topanga, and its well thought through However I'd like to have more flexibility, eg to be able to try JPlay Chris mentions that the atom on that Intel is too low powered So I've been researching and found the Intel DH61AG 'Apple Glen' Mini-ITX Motherboard. Reviewed here Intel DH61AG 'Apple Glen' Mini-ITX Motherboard Review > Features & Specifications - TechSpot The same size as the DN2800MT, so it'd fit the same case, costs not much more, but allows you to do more Does anyone have any experience or thoughts? Cheers
  3. Hi All I've got the cases on the way, and am about to extend my small home network by two PCs: - One will run nothing but MC, probably Win 7, no need for a monitor optical discs will run on a networked Oppo - one MC; and a browser via a 22" touchscreen, so probably Win 8 and "reasonable" onboard video Both to be controlled with JRemote After just recently the cost of setting up a good NAS and a new general purpose quad core PC, and a top quality DAC for the "main system" I'd like to keep the purchase (and running) cost low. And without games or Office, the processor can be low power For just MC, is an Atom enough? For the motherboard, how's the Intel DN2800MT Is the minimum spec determined at least as much by the operating system(one Win 7, one Win 8)? Or do both of these have the same minimum need for CPU and amount of memory? TIA
  4. Hi Christo I was thinking of doing something similar - approx what did all the parts cost, and how long did it take to put it together? Cheers
  5. Hi I’d read about the CAPS V2 and V3 etc, they are obviously carefully chosen and refined. They are well liked. I apologize if I've missed it, but I've looked around here and on other forums, googled it, etc. . yet I haven’t seen many post a good comparison, to another server or servers Can anyone share their experiences with a comparison/s? On otherwise the same system, with what sort of music/ recordings, what were the sonic strengths of the CAPSs, eg bass, detail, etc? I want to run JRMC, so personally I'm interested in Windows servers Thank you
  6. That was my question of sligolad, what has he used and compared it to. I'm looking for a server, and read about the Zuma, and am looking for some comparisons Can you point me to any comparisons? Cheers
  7. Hi What is better about the Zuma, compared to ... Curious Cheers
  8. Thanks guys. Both modestly priced, and it seems not too confusing ~ wonder which has the better interface . .
  9. Even where you have a solid state drive, which may reduce the benefit, but to try ~ Is there a memory mode/ media player (like Pure Music or Amarra) for Windows 7?
