  1. I have no sound output while playing DSD files through I2S on my KTE May DAC. All FLAC files work perfectly. I’ve tried Volumio, GentooPlayer, and Ropieee. I tried both I2S inputs, and all I2S pinout configurations. USB works fine but doesn’t have the desired SQ.
  2. I ordered a Serene KTE less than 4 weeks ago. In the meantime, I decided to make some changes to my listening room. I thought I had 2 more weeks, so last night, I unplugged everything, bagged the cables, carefully stacked the components on the floor, and moved the speakers against the wall. And surprise, surprise… while taking the trash to the curb this morning, I found my new preamplifier on the front porch. DHL delivered it yesterday without ringing the doorbell, and I never went out the front door. I unboxed it, and started haphazardly plugging things together, but no sound. Checked cables and powered everything OFF and ON. No good. Changed XLR, USB, and ethernet cables. Still no sound. Noticed that Roon did recognized the streamer and the DAC. Powered everything OFF again to change to a spare amp. Turned everything back ON, now I have sound. To test if the amp was truly bad, I turned OFF only the preamp and switched back to the original amp, and it was working fine – there was sound. Not sure what the problem was, but time to sit down and listen. It didn’t sound quite right. Moved the speakers 4 feet from the back wall and 4 feet from the side walls. Not much improvement, still missing something. The only cable that I downgraded was the USB cable. I removed a AudioQuest Cinnamon USB cable and plugged in my original cable, a Moon Audio Silver Dragon USB cable. And the sound became more dynamic, or lively. That’s what was missing. The only explanation for the no sound issues must have been the communication between the streamer and the DAC. Even though Roon saw both, and the DAC was displaying the correct music format being played, I think powering everything OFF and ON a couple times must have fixed the problem. Going to let it burn in before reorganizing the audio rack.
  3. For late night viewing of movies, I use iems with a Bluetooth adapter (7Hz Timeless plus FiiO UTWS3). The Timeless (around $200) is a planar design and has incredible detail in mid and treble, but lack a big bass punch.
  4. Enjoying this thread so much I ordered a Mercury Streamer on which to experiment. Question - has anyone thought on using a M.2/PCIe riser cable with a SFP optical card?
  5. @Rexp, I originally downloaded at acousticsounds.com, but is no longer available.
  6. Some may think this is early, but I work the late shift. Listening to Karen Gomyo: A Piazzolla Trilogy.
  7. Musicman1, wasn’t aware that Raal had a tube amp for the Requisite. Looks interesting. Contact Danny McKinney at [email protected]. Hopefully you he can answer that question.
  8. Musicman1, is your tube amp an integrated amp?
  9. My May KTE arrived this morning. First impressions… there might be a PS Audio DS DAC on the market soon. Out of the box the USB input sounds the best. With the Bricasti M5 as Roon endpoint the sound is neutral, open, with a deeper sound stage. Switching the M5 for the Sonore opticalRendu the sound was a bit bright. Prefer the M5 sound. Going to allow it to break in for the rest of the week.
  10. This update interrupted my search for a new DAC. Now I'm focused on sending higher sample rates to the DAC via I2S. USB input also improved, but I didn't notice any change in the network bridge.
  11. I was considering auditioning a new DAC, then PS Audio releases a new update named Sunlight for the DirectStream and it immediately sounds more lively. I will live with it for awhile before attempting a new purchase. Has anyone else made the upgrade?
  12. krelldog, Give us an update. How does your Yggy sound?
  13. Haven't heard a Bryston, though it was no my list. But I do have a PS Audio DirectStream DAC, a Yggy, and an Oppo 105. I setup the Yggy this morning to start the break-in process. Out of the box both the DS and the Yggy are in a different class than the very bright Oppo (Sabre chip). Some of my Redbook sounds better on the Yggy, and most of my DSD sounds better on the DS, and the rest I can't tell the difference, so far. After hearing each in my system, I could live with either, but don't ask me to give one up, yet.
