  1. If you're open to using the XA25 then I guess the field should be open for other class AB designs as well? Since the XA25 outputs quite a bit of power in class B according to the measurements in Stereophile. FWIW, I use an integrated McIntosh @ 200 wpc with my 1.6QR SE's. Works great. Also tried a Quad 520 @ 150 wpc/4 ohm when the Mc was in for service that worked great as well.
  2. Yes, but if you take inflation into account you can definitely get "larger" speakers for an additional 100 1970 dollars today. The $100 price increase is equivalent to a $700 increase in 2020 currency, and a lot of serious brands that offer a $700 bookshelf speaker most likely has a $1400 tower speaker.
  3. I use a Pioneer PD70AE as a DAC, which is more than good enough for me. It doesn't have USB in though. They added USB to the PD50AE but removed the balanced outputs sadly, so I went with the PD70 instead. Thanks! Will look into the Matrix and read the very long thread on PS Audio. 🙂
  4. Just received my "new" Mac Mini, and it works like a charm with A3.5+. Thanks for the convincing. 🙂 Really nice to both be able to use my phone as a remote but also screen share if I'm using my computer. Now I just need to figure out whether I should stick with optical mini or bother buying a USB to coax converter (using a DAC without USB input).
  5. Just FYI, their dimensions make them very large for being PC speakers (imho). 8.625” (22cm) x 16.75” (42.55cm) x 11” (27.9cm)
  6. Thanks! I have contacted the seller, hopefully it isn't sold yet. €350 seemed like a pretty good deal.
  7. I'm a new user looking to buy a computer whose sole purpose will be to run Audirvana. I've found a Mac Mini late 2012 which runs Catalina with an i7, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD, but my question is how long Audirvana will be able to run on Catalina considering the late 2012 mini will probably not get any further iOS updates. Hope my question makes sense. Thanks!
  8. You know, some people actually like to play CD's and not always just stream music. There already are very cheap streamers on the market (e.g. Hifi-berry), so what you're suggesting has already been done.
  9. Thanks for the answer, appreciate it! Yeah, I had a brain freeze and didn't think of my other phone that is always lying nearby without flight mode on. Moved it across the desk and the problem almost disappeared so I guess that will do it. Always nice to have problems solved without having to buy something new. :-)
  10. I'm using the Mojo together with an iPhone SE using a Apple CCK. Works fine SQ wise, but I'm experiencing intermittent interference which is something that I have experienced while connected to my MBP late 2013 as well. Is there an easy solution for this? Getting e.g. an iFi iSilencer? I've tried using airplane mode and while I think it helped a bit it did not completely solve the issue.
  11. Not entirely portable, but the Musical fidelity MX-DAC is fully balanced (which should be of interest considering your amplifier), light and has a small footprint but needs a wall socket.
  12. TBH I think you're better off with buying new/better headphones. I don't really see the point with using high-end equipment exclusively for 99 dollar headphones since you most likely will not notice any difference.
