  1. Yes, I do that, thanks. My concern is with the edits I've made to metadata, eg. Track titles, album covers, etc. that the HAP can import from Gracenotes when I upload a digitized LP. It's not clear (despite a chat with Sony support) whether those metadata are retained with the backup copies or whether they're retained in some sort of internal registry on the HAP, and therefore lost if the HAP gets replaced or re-formatted. Has anyone had the experience of restoring their database and having their edits survive or not?
  2. Hi everyone. My S1 has been operating well since the firmware problem was resolved, but now the horizontal line that others have reported has appeared. I've seen the posted solution, ie. contact Sony, but that makes me nervous given our previous experience and the amount of work I've put into organizing my music database on the unit. Does anyone know whether the problem gets worse, or whether it just stays as a thin line? Has anyone in Canada had success in contacting Sony and arranging a repair? (I'm in Vancouver.)
  3. I haven't seen those problems so far. I tried to replicate them with a few albums this morning, but my unit performed properly. All seems well with the firmware on my HAP. Only problem I have is the controller apps losing contact with the HAP at random times. I think this is a LAN issue similar to one I had with my Sonos speaker system. I solved that by hard-wiring one of the speakers to my router (vs. all wifi) but the HAP is too far away from the router to do that easily.
  4. I did yesterday. No problem so far. Although Sony site says installation of 17384R "not necessary" if you have firmware 17050R (ie. the one that brought our HAPs back to life), you don't have any choice once your iOS HDD Audio app updates. It demands the new firmware.
  5. It does indeed sound very good. It's great to have mine back in action after the firmware screwup. Sony has a good pdf'ed manual for the HAP on their site, along with the music transfer program and the app. It does a good job of explaining how to do all those things, including merging and dividing albums, and adding artwork (I've scanned album covers into my photo folders and then edited them into the HAP, and sometimes used a scan of a blank CD which looks like an old 45 record when I've brought in a compilation album). The manual also explains DSEE etc.
  6. I'm no expert on that error message, but I'd check your network status on the HAP under Settings. If that seems OK, try to access one of the Internet Radio stations from the TuneIn list. If that works, that shows that the HAP can reach the Internet. If not, I'd check your router to see if it is connected to the Internet, and see if an app or computer can access the net. If everything else seems to work but you're still getting that message, then you might try turning the HAP off and unplugging it for a minute or two, then starting it up again. I had a glitch once where the HAP couldn't connect to my wifi net, and that restart procedure corrected the problem.
  7. Gracenotes has found most of my album covers first time, including when I've digitized lps and cassettes and included some metadata with their.flac. I have on occasion had to use the "get data" feature on the HAP for it to find the cover and track info, and rarely with obscure stuff I've scanned a cover and imported it with the "edit data" feature.
  8. You can hook your external drive to your laptop, and setup the HAP Music Transfer program on your laptop to find the specific directories on the external drive. Then the transfer will happen without problems. Don't try to hook the external drive direct to the HAP. I understand that the first thing the HAP does is re-format the drive to set it up for subsequent integrated use with its own internal drive.
  9. Yes, all seems well. No problems since I installed 17050R. I've done uploads, registry edits, playback from playlists, etc. etc. I have an occasional problem with loss of connection between the iOS apps and the HAP, but this seems to be a wifi interference or router problem unrelated to the firmware issue.
  10. I think that's Sony Corporate-speak for "fixes problems we created with 152R", which were the inability to communicate with the Music Transfer program and the Internet radio, and the inability to playback anything. My retailer heard from the Sony rep that the new firmware is more a step backward to reverse the problems created in 152R, rather than an "improvement". But 152R did work for a month and a half for me before it croaked, so I guess you could just keep going with it and update to 17050R if it stops working.
  11. And the TuneIn music channels are available again.
  12. I've installed 17050R today and it has brought my HAP-S1 back to life. The Sony website updated to show it as available this morning, and when I plugged in my HAP it instantly found the update. So after the installation, which was routine, all my music files are still there, all the edits, album art, etc. seem to be there, and the HAP Music Transfer program on my PC is now showing all the available file extensions. So far so good. I haven't checked all the edits I did previously, and I haven't tried to transfer any music to the HAP yet, but all looks good. Finally!
  13. I got the same response. I guess it's not ready yet. Sony's support website also shows the ..152R firmware as current, and without a note saying something like "warning - this firmware may disable your player". Pretty poor!
  14. Sounds like good news! I'd love to try it now, but I'm out of town until Saturday. Hopefully someone else will cross their fingers and try it out. Here's hoping!
  15. My retailer advised me today that he'd read online that Sony was planning to push out a new firmware version on April 18th. I haven't been able to find anything online to confirm. Has anyone else heard or seen anything?
