  1. Hi Mark, I have indeed...trying to expand beyond the bascis there...looking for personal experiences and insights from people with different ideas, suggestions, systems etc. - Thanks
  2. Greetings, First of all. Love this site. Love what so many share re: equipment, user experiences and overall knowledge imparted. That all said, I am wanting to shift to a dedicated music server—the Mac mini 2.3GHz i5 (a 2010? or? with Snow Leopard instead of Lion?) seems to make the most sense. Wanted some feedback on how to maximize how I listen and what I hear through my system. (happy with sound overall-but can always improve) I rip to CDs WAV and use for different reasons and listening experiences, MAX, Cog, Decible, etc. I listen to ALL types if music at different listening levels. Wanting to get the BEST sound possible with my system. Also open to "affordable" changes I might make with some of my gear to help me in my quest. What then might be the best choice for my iMac, audio equipment (listed below) and listening behavior? Also and insights/experiences with Mach2Music Mac Minis? Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions...
  3. Good suggestion.... I have been reading a lot of threads and reviews on both the Beresford TC-7520 and Musical Fidelity's V-Dac - seem similar and in a close price point. Anyone have thoughts to which my be better... especially given my interests, set up and my needs?
  4. Interesting.. I do have Firewire..... do you like the Apogee Mini better than the regular one? Why? on the PS - what do you mean by tagging... ( Song Titles etc?) ...and I am hard pressed to believe there is a better sound quality format than WAV. thoughts?? thanks for your thoughts
  5. What I 'do' ..doesn't necessarily dictate what my needs or interests are...let alone determine what gear I use. There are VERY different types of "producers'..and I am not one who's busy recording beats and using pro gear... I use studios for my work..as I do not own one and a lot of my work is A&R which is why I listen to so much music....so at Home it is all about the listening... hence my query. ST
  6. Best Quality Sound and "Inexpensive" ($100-400) DAC with highest resolution Hi, I am a music producer and a FAN of music - all genres. Though I have lots of gear ( Old Marantz. and Bryston - newer Rotel) and a couple of set-ups ( Living room 5.1 Rotel ) .. my main listening is in my office.. Intel imac Rotel integrated Nht sub amp w/sub Near-field- NHT Classic 3 Room- Ohm Walsh 3x0 I have thousands of CDs..and slowly converting my favorites to WAV files and using itunes for listening. My desire is to also download hi-res tracks from places like www.HDtracks.com and other labels that are providing 192/24=96/24 resolution. Many of the well-reviewed DACs I have seen in forums here ( in this price range) seem to be limited to 44.1kHz / 16 bit, I am desiring to get the best resolution ( for my ears... unaffected sound) possible that works with my system and the intel iMac. ( I will never be using a PC) Some I have looked at..thoughts on these or others? Beresford TC7510 Valab NOS Musical Fidelity V-Dac Edirol UA-25 Cambride Audio DacMagic M-Audio Transit My interest in best sound/value for dollar. Your ideas and input is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and advice. ST
