  1. Gentlemen, Thanks for such great detail on a fascinating way to improve the sound. I spent the time to review and understand the basic concepts discussed herein and went ahead and purchased the equipment to create an optic interconnect: TrendNet Media Ethernet Converter, TrendNet Mini-GBIC Multi-Mode SX Module(s) (2), LC - LC 50/125 OM3 DPLEX OFNR 1M cable, and one 5W power supply from musicdirect. I have yet to receive the Ethernet Converter from CDW and power supply. And to let you know the set up I have: QNAP HS-251 -> Netgear Wireless R7000 Router -> Simaudio Moon MiND 180 streamer - Auralic Vega DAC. Obviously I would put the fibre optic device between the router and the MiND and I should be "good to go." Couple of questions: First, I have seen that jabbr has recommended an optic switch and another, in that same vein, recommends the Diablo 8 port switch. What additional benefit does that bring? It seems that an optic switch would be required if you were running an optic NIC in your computer, which I don't have in my set up. Is that right? Or is there some additional benefit to adding an optic switch to my set up? Or is it simply the principle that one ought to use a switch for connecting the NAS to the streamer? Which leads to this question. I have seen some discussion regarding whether to use a router or router & switch. In my case, I bought a Netgear Gigabit switch (connected to the router) and connected both my MiND and the QNAP to it and the sound was not that great, but the Asset player responded much quicker; seems as if I lost the bottom end of the spectrum. Perhaps that could have been because I was adding another power supply to the musical stream, so to speak. At the same time, if I had a 100 Base switch (which is all I need because the MiND is not gigabit), and got a quiet power supply, that may be something to try. At the same time, I wonder whether any of this experimenting with adding a switch would bring any benefit over just using the router. And, if a switch is a good idea, whether an optic switch would be necessary since an optic interconnect may be enough to isolate it from a regular 100 Base switch? Thanks in advance.
