  1. I said nothing about the uRendu. I simply pointed out that folks on the net have always had a tendency to get carried away about the 'next best thing'. It may be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I certainly hope so. But lets not get carried away just yet.
  2. I've been on the net since the beginning and I've watched this scene play out countless times. Relax, the uRendu has potential. But until we get long term feedback from those we trust who are not involved with the project, that's all we'll have, is potential. I'll keep my fingers crossed that early feedback is accurate. Time will tell.
  3. My dac only takes usb, so I can't do ethernet directly from the N1A to the dac. Yes, the N1A will do usb, but I'm withholding judgement on the sound quality until I hear it. Right now I use an HP Spectre 13 laptop with a big ssd which sounds pretty darn good especially since I have JRiver set to have absolute priority for music which quiets it significantly. However the background isn't as black as I would like (yes, I'm a perfectionist like the rest of us nuts on here). Second, I like JRiver a lot, but I'm attracted to Roon especially for the streaming of hi-rez and DSD. And the microRendu will be roon ready, which my dac is not, though it is promised. Like anything in this addiction, I'll believe it when I see it. So I'm curious, like the rest of us, as to just how good the mR will be. I suppose I should add my system to my signature, but I'm in transition, having just picked up the LHLabs XFi dac (dirt cheap), a Violectric V281 balanced headphone amp, and HiFiMan HE-1000 headphones which I partially traded a classic pair of Ultrasone Edition 9's for. Plus I have HE-560's which are as revealing as anything out there, so I'm in tinkering mode...
  4. Thank you. To me that makes the microRendu even more valuable. Now all I have to do is hope the Melco N1A I have on order works with my LHLabs XFi dac and with Roon. Too many pieces, way too many pieces...
  5. So the microRendu is Roon Ready. Does that mean if I buy the microRendu and set it up for Roon output, my dac doesn't have to be Roon Ready? Or am I missing something here?
  6. Ok, Jesus, how do we get in the queue?
  7. If the mailing list is closed, it looks like I'm out of luck for now. Plus it looks like at least a couple months for product to be available. The good news is this will help my cashflow. 8-) Thanks for the response, I'm sure it will help all of us who are curious and waiting.
  8. Jesus, as a user of the regen, I have faith. Plus the Sig Rendu sound has been describe in reviews to be clear and pure, just the way I like it. My home network has been wired, I'm ready to order the NAS, all I need is the microRendu. So, do you have a list for those who wish to pre order or wish to be an early adopter? If so I'd like to be on it. I would like to receive one of the first batch and would appreciate an email for when you are ready to accept orders, pre order, pre pay or simply get on the list. I'm assuming the design has been frozen for the first production run and you are waiting for the first batch. Any update of the timing? And, as usual, thanks for your patience. 8-)
  9. You are a good man Jesus. And a patient one. Do you agree from your experience that direct mounting sounds best? And thank you. 8-)
  10. My understanding is that DLNA doesn't sound as good as direct mounting. Here is the quote from the article I linked to (Mark Jenkins talking): "Regarding your observation of a decrease in sound quality when playing back music from the NAS using DLNA: in general, this is true. But if you'll allow us to assist you in setup mounting the QNAP, you'll find that the difference in sound quality between the internal storage and the mounted NAS is very small -indeed, tiny. We'd be happy to help you in the setup process, just as we would with any customer; the improvement in sound quality compared to playback through DLNA is well worth the minor effort involved." Read more at Antipodes Reference Series DX Music Server Part 2 | AudioStream Do you agree with the quote and if I mount, would I have to do anything else to get it to work with JRiver or do I need another piece of sw? I'm really trying to get rid of that slight veil which drives me crazy as it's so obvious with high quality headphones. Yes, I'm realizing 6a should be sufficient for a 75 foot run which is what I'll need.
  11. First time poster here. I know next to nothing about networks, but Jesus' new product fits in with my philosophy. Simple, designed for one function, as small as possible, electrically isolated as possible (with the best possible incoming power) and as close to the next process as possible. (relatively inexpensive helps, note, I did not say inexpensive) So if I'm setting up an NAS to utilize the rendu, would this work: NAS 215J > cat 7 cable > cable company router > cat 7 cable > rendu > lhlabs pulse xfi I have no idea what software gives the best sound or even where it needs to reside. Currently I use JRiver on a HP Spectre 13 notebook with SSD connected to the net over wifi. FLAC files are sent via Jitterbug > Belkin Gold cable > Superdad's amber device (whatever its name is) > LHLabs XFi Dac > Violectric 281 amp > HiFiMan 560 or HE 1000 (on the way) headphones. Sound quality with this is good enough to have the soundstage leave the headphones and appear in front of me on a few well miked files (Beegie Adair recordings being the best at this). I want to improve my source enough to give me this listening experience with as many recordings as possible. So, am I on the right track? What software do I need and where should it reside? Does the Synology 215J have enough memory (512 mb) to cache the music w/o to much thrashing in/out of memory? Jesus, will the rendu work with my LHLabs XFi? And what am I missing and need to add or improve what I'm guessing I need? Jesus, when will you be taking preorders? And can you email when that happens so I can get in the queue? I love the Antipodes source and it would be the simplest but it's out of my budget range and feel it can be duplicated using an NAS with rendu. Even Mark Jenkins says his DV zero feeding from an NAS is the second best in sounding setup his lineup just behind his SSD based rig. Here's an interesting link to an article where he discusses his design philosophy which I agree with completely and I think Jesus would concur: Antipodes Reference Series DX Music Server Part 2 | AudioStream Sorry for the length of the post but I really want to get this right as this is the last step (hopefully) in my upgrade path and the most important.
