  1. I know this forum is suppose to be about the technical ins and outs of ripping and storage but most of this is above my understanding. All I really care about is how my rip sounds compared to the original. Assuming my WMP rips and plays without any trouble is there any difference in the quality of sound compared to the more sophisticated rippers?
  2. That's good to know. Thanks for the info. Dbpoweramp sounds like the best solution.
  3. I had no idea that EAC verifies your data from an outside database. Not that that's a huge deal but I wonder how inaccurate my RIP from WMP could possibly be? I have not encountered any problems playing anything so far. Most of my cds were purchased new and are in excellent condition. If a different program was easier to catalog or provided something else extra like maybe liner notes, I would be more interested in that.
  4. I used to use EAC when I was on XP but now on windows 7/10 I started using WMP and itunes. I have another hard drive from a second desktop system that has EAC rips but what I did not like was no track names or album art so maybe I was doing something wrong. Is that the main advantage of EAC error correction?
  5. I am in the process of ripping my cd collection to a 3tb Fathom external hard drive. I have been ripping with windows media player using wave lossless set to best quality. I will be playing the files on a Marantz UD7007 blueray/multi disc player with usb input so no PC involved at this point but that could change someday. Should I be using something other than windows to rip? I'm about 75 discs in with about 600 to go.
  6. Yes that's would work. Do I still need a pc or mac for something like this or could I connect a hard drive directly to it without? The regular Aries also looks interesting.
  7. I'm looking for a way to incorporate hi rez downloads and maybe steaming (not as important) into my home theater rig which also serves 2 channel audio. I have a Cary Cinema 11a which will accept hi rez digital via coax, optical and xlr. DSD is hdmi only. I love the sound of the Cary so it seems to make sense to let it do most of the heavy lifting. My thought is to utilize the Cary as a DAC so I need something that will incorporate a hard drive with some kind of controller, preferably Bluetooth via tablet or laptop with separate hardrive. My main goal is to not downgrade the sound quality I'm currently getting from my two sources, Marantz SA11s1 for redbook/sacd and DV8400 which I currently use to play my own home brewed hi rez dvda's. I have been considering upgrading my Marantz dv8400 to a more modern universal player like an Oppo 105 or Marantz ud7007. Both units have usb inputs but at $1k for an extra dac option with no artwork and liner notes and still the need for something to send the bits I'm wondering if there is a better option?
