    HQ Player

Thanks for the suggestion. I installed HQPlayer on my laptop and tested with the DAC, to my surprise it worked for DSD. At first I thought, oh crap how am I going to figure this out now. But I discovered I had s USB extension cable on this that was no longer needed and when I eliminated the extension cable and plugged it back into the Mac Studio, DSD files are working again. Roon plays them as well. No idea why it would play PCM only, but eliminating the extension cable resolved it. Note to self, back to troubleshooting 101 in the future, not matter what check cables and connections.

I even tried switching usb ports and no change. I can hear a slight hiss, like the noise floor coming. on for the analogue outputs o the dac, when I try to play a DSD file. The very faint hissing stops when I press the stop button on HQ player. So the DAC is outputting something just not music sound.

What is A26? If you are referring to Mac, yes you can only use DOP on Mac at a max of 256

Not that I am aware. I did not install or update anything on the OS in a long time. I did update the OS last night as I was falling behind, and I get the same behavior, no DSD but I do get PCM. ONE thing I did notice is that the dac displays the resolution on the display when you first play a PCM in or. a DSD in. It displays the resolution on both but no sound comes out for DSD. I could be barking up the wrong tree, but this seems like the file is getting to the dac but no sound is being generated to the analogue outs.

No change. BTW, I have been using DOP 256 for years. DOP will do 256 but not 512. The settings in the screen shot have been this way since I bought the Mac Studio and upgraded to HQP 4 19 months ago. Nothing was changed and it just stopped playing sound with DSD but not PCM.

It does not have sound playing directly out of HQP with Roon shut down. I always test that first if I have any issues. Only sound on PCM. Just happened randomly without any changes being made.

Still no sound on DSD. I have not changed any settings in 18 months since I upgraded to version 4. No problems until now. I am suspecting something with the Dac, cannot see anything else it could be unless somebody has some idea that pans out.

I have suddenly lost the ability to play DSD files. I am on a Mac Studio, M1 Pro processor. I am running OS Ventura 13.6.2 and have update to the latest version of HQ Player 4. This was working prior to this weekend. I use Roon as a front end. Have powered everything up including the DAC, Topping D50S, and no sound on DSD. I can play PCM fine, either through Roon or HQ Player. I cannot play DSD directly through HQ Player and get any sound. PCM works fine. Nothing changed or updated since last weekend. It just stopped having sound on DSD playback. See screenshot of settings. Could this be a DAC issue? I have had this for several years.
  9. What settings are unobtainable on a normal M1? I just upgraded to a max but had been on v3 hqplyer ext2 for years. I have not found any setting that won't play yet but am curious as to what settings are very high demand? 2 channel only.
  10. Will do, I have not found any combination of filters and modulators that are not working yet. Half of them would not run on my retired i7 iMac. If anyone has any combinations they are curios about let me know.
  11. PCM to DSD. I have been using EXT2 a long time on HPPlayer 3, I just upgraded both HQplayer and went to a Mac Studio. Just wanted to see what the world of filters I could not run before is like and see what others are running. I may just have to go through the process of listening to all the candidates and see what stands out.
  12. I know it is subject, does anyone have any suggestions as to which DSD filters are smooth and warm sounding?
  13. Just setup my new Mac Studio with the M1 Max Processor (base model). Does anyone have any suggestion for settings to try to see how high demand settings this thing will run? I have been on an older iMac which had an older four core i7 in it so many of these filters and modulators could not be used. Also would suggest any suggestion for good filters and modulators that this processor may be able to run for listening to mainly rock. I am using a Topping D50S dac and Roon as well.

Thank you for the answer. So it seems like this is beneficial in that you can run different filters and use a higher processor usage on on the lower demand rate and use a less demanding one for the higher drain load so you don't get drop outs and don't have to compromise to the lowest common denominator. I presume Nx is higher processor drain correct?
