  1. Hi, reviving this thread, Sony just issued a new firmware upgrade 188033R. I didn't catch what the fix or add-ons are, but at least it hasn't brick-walled my unit.
  2. Ha, if that is the case, Sony sure knows how to bend the English language! Anyhow, I've updated to 17050R and detect nothing new or different in functionality. I am happy for you folks for which the upgrades fixed serious problems like Internet radio use. I'm still under a warranty so figure I'd best upgrade the firmware and if things go sideways i can always send it in to be fixed (again).
  3. For those that had the 15152r version, and had no problems with it, what does the firmware upgrade improve with regards to "communications and playback quality" as per the sony support website? Anything noticeable?
  4. Mine was repaired with the 52r version re-installed in February, and has been working fine since. Not sure what to do. What does the firmware upgrade purport to fix or improve?
  5. McGill, I took a look at the repair summary, and it says they replaced the pc board. Nothing about the warranty period being revised.
  6. When I received my repaired Haps1, the installed firmware was the 52 version. I have turned off the automatic firmware update feature. Apart from a possibility that they would expand the unit's functionality to allow for streaming services, i don't plan to change this approach as I am happy with the current setup. As a cautionary, I have also since gone to a wired connection via a powerline adapter (the router is in a different room). When on wireless, I got the sense the inevitable drops and delays and repeated commands confused the unit. Not scientific, but simply intuition. At any rate, no problems since the unit came back from the Sony Repair dealer. Happy listening...
  7. Hi folks, first time poster and new member. Actually, it's my seeing this thread that compelled me to relay my experiences with the haps1. I've had my unit since mid December. 35 days after purchase the unit froze in the stand-by position. The place I purchased it from was good enough to take the unit and deal directly with Sony. I live in Canada as well, and I understand that the unit was shipped to the Whitby shop referenced earlier. Judging from the repair summary, it looks like it was a faulty motherboard here. I have had the unit back for two days, and it seems to be working ok, although a bit laggy when using the jog wheel. Luckily, the hdd wasn't erased and I don't have to re-transfer all my files. I'm concerned that any firmware updates will now lock the machine. Can I defeat any automatic firmware updates? As it is, I was happy with the original version that came with the machine. Fantastic sound quality btw, I have it hooked up to a NAD integrated and Energy RC line of speakers. Wonderful detail, tight bass and lots of air around instruments...more so than a previous mid-end CD player as the input. I'll be watching this thread closely!
