  1. OK evidently this is a problem with my Wyred4Sound DAC-2 not being compatible with Mavericks. I think I need to install some new drivers etc.
  2. I'm having a weird problem -- all of a sudden. I'm running iTunes on a Mac Mini running Mavericks. iTunes opens fine, it shows the music in the library, all the functions work in terms of being able to open an individual song file to see the location etc. But when I hit the play button, it just sits there, the time elapsed cursor doesn't budge! I've re-booted the computer, re-installed iTunes, re-pointed iTunes to the library etc etc Anyone see this problem before? An internet search hasn't helped !
  3. I'm giving it a try...primarily to replicate my library to my work computer and my phone. Anyway, when I did the database match/upload etc it did NOT upload my High Rez files and labeled them as "Ineligible" for iTunes Match. Disappointing.
  4. I'm trying Mog as I type this...and am impressed so far. I'm also anxious to see your thoughts on Spotify. I think Apple has a challenge to enter the "streaming music" market with features or sound quality comparable to what I'm hearing. On the other hand, sheer market presence could make their (eventual) product a slam dunk-even with lesser capability/performance. Hoping competition will continue to drive quality higher!<br />
  5. Chris did a great tutorial on how to convertnfiles using MAX here: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/How-Convert-HDtracks-FLAC-High-Resolution-Downloads-and-Add-iTunes-Video-Commentary This should help get you going. Sorry for all my typing errors...I'm using an iPad and not correcting myself...
  6. Hey Norman, I'm speaking from memory, since I'm out of town this weekend and away from my music system. But as I recall, when I click on AIFF it drops down a choice of a couple of different AIFF choices. I personally choosenthe generic (non-Apple) AIFF. Then if I double click on it OR click on a button there it gives the choice of setting the output format resolution. Speaking of which, I set the output resolution to match whatever the native resolution is of the files I'm converting I.e 16 bit for CDs 24 bit for HD Tracks 24/96 files. Also, I meant to mention one other thing I like about MAX is that you can tell it to use multiple processors when converting files to speed up the process. For example, I do a lot of my downloads and conversions using a big 4 core iMac and set MAX tonuse 4 processors, so it converts 4 files at a time- greatly speedingnupnthe conversion process. Cheers, Murph
  7. Hi Eric, and welcome> I have an almost identical (front-end) setup as you i.e. Drobo NAS, iTunes on a Mac Mini (although I use Pure Music on top of it) in to a W4S dac. I also use Max and rip CDs and download High Rez files, storing them all as AIFF in their native resolutions. The nice thing about Pure Music is it's ability to detect and change the output to match the resolution of the files, so when I set my music to "random" I don't have to manually change the output etc. to match the file resolution of the music that's playing. Pure Music also has nice musicality to it that I think was lacking in (at least earlier releases) of iTunes, so I'm a fan. But it's worth the price (to me) just to have the resolution changing issues addressed. In Max, I use the linear AIFF setting, and remember to set the output to 24 bit, I think it defaults to 16 bit. (I made this mistake and had to go back and reformat several hundred FLAC files so they would be in 24 bit in my library). For me, I try to keep things as simple as possible so I maintain my library in iTunes, use MAX to format into AIFF. I still have the FLAC files on a separate disc, but don't use them for anything other than archiving the High Rez music I've downloaded (from HD Tracks primarily) Hope this helps some....I'm by no means an expert, and I've gotten a lot of help from the experts on this forum. I'm sure you'll get some good guidance from them as well. I'm a musician and a music lover in general, so to me the "end game" is enjoying the music, not necessarily knowing every detail about the equipment and software etc, that gets me there. Enjoy!
  8. I'll be interested to see how/if you fix yours. One of my 801s has had a dented tweeter dome for about 3 years. I've tried tape, but it didn't get enough "purchase" on the aluminum to pull out.
  9. I think I'll give XLD A shot and see how it compares. Thanks guys!
  10. Yep that's it... Thanks guys".........evidently you have to manually change the settings in Max very time you use it. I thought when I initially set it up many months ago, that it saved my settings. The very first album I downloaded and converted to AIFF was 24 bit, but everything thereafter was at 16. That would be a nice feature.... For it to remember your settings....
  11. I've downloaded several albums from HD Tracks, converted them with Max into my iTunes database. They all show up in iTunes as 96kHz sample rate, but when I click on "Get Info" in iTunes, they say they are 16 bit sample size. Am I missing a setting or something in Max? Or do "they all do that" ? I was expecting them to be a 24 bit sample rate. Thanks! Murph
  12. I was having the same problem with PM since I upgraded to 1.72a..BUT based on a suggestion from another forum it was solved....if you check "preallocate" in the music server settings under preferences in Pure Music it will stop spontaneously "quitting".
  13. Thanks! Yeah evidently checking the preallocate box fixes the recurring crashes. Mine's been playing for several hours now with nary a crash. :-)
  14. Ever since I upgraded to 1.72 I've had problems with PM just stopping and I get the error message " PM quit unexpectedly..." Anyone else having this issue?>
  15. Under System Preferences, Music, you can assign "sound effects" to the internal speakers as opposed to your USB output.
