Shootout at the Linux Corral: AudioLinux vs Euphony
Jay Tee replied to bobfa's topic in Music Servers
Mission accomplished. There were a couple of extra steps...but all is well. Not sure yet about the sound. Thanks @Holzohr.- 390 replies

Shootout at the Linux Corral: AudioLinux vs Euphony

Sorry I might’ve confused you with the word clone. I meant the same restore you described...but the question was did you do it with a fresh image or with the image on your already in-use USB stick.- 390 replies

Shootout at the Linux Corral: AudioLinux vs Euphony

Holzohr, One quick question: Can I use your routine to clone my current USB stick boot disk or do I have to start from scratch and use a fresh image?- 390 replies

Shootout at the Linux Corral: AudioLinux vs Euphony
Jay Tee replied to bobfa's topic in Music Servers
Earlier in this thread you mentioned adding an Optane module in the m.2 slot of your NUC and moving Euphony to that ‘drive’ to dispense with booting from the USB stick. I’ve just followed you and added an Optane stick to my NUC running trial Euphony and it shows up in Euphony. I need your guidance on how to move my Euphony from the USB stick to the Optane drive (assuming I can do it with the trial). By the way I have removed both my SSDs from the NUC and perceive a more open see-through sound, quieter, if you will. Thanks for pointing us to Euphony. I rate it above my Auralic Aries in realism. The Aries is good, but Euphony puts more meat on the bones. I expect to buy my Euphony license as soon as I’ve sorted out my niggling issues.- 390 replies

Any suitable offering for non-box...i.e panel speakers, like the Magneplanars? Has anybody tried these under Maggies?

Euphony OS w/Stylus player setup and issues thread
Jay Tee replied to bobfa's topic in Music Servers
@bobfa You mentioned upgrading Euphony last week. Was this a trial version? I downloaded the trial 20190504 update to a fresh thumb drive, but it does not play. I can’t log into it from my iPad. What was your update routine? Do I have to re-engage a keyboard, mouse and monitor?- 5357 replies

I mistakenly posted this in another thread last month and thought I should move it where it belongs. The Uptone Audio customer service is the bomb (not news to everybody I know). My latest experience: Last weekend, I had an issue with my LPS-1 power supply (it's feeding my ISO-Regen and did not power on). SUNDAY night I wrote Uptone an email outlining the problem. MONDAY I got a response from Alex apologizing for the issue and offering options for dealing with it (fixing it/replacing it/upgrading it). Naturally since I had (and loved) the LPS-1, I opted for the new LPS-1.2 at a substantially reduced price, shipping included. TUESDAY I got an email from Alex (with FedEx tracking number), saying the LPS1.2 has been shipped. WEDNESDAY before sundown, I got my LPS 1.2 and had it playing all night. Customer service doesn't get any better than that! And did I say I am 6,000 miles from California! My initial assessment of the sound after 48 hours: An all-round improvement in sonics: deeper, more articulate bass; a lower noise floor; wider sound stage; smoother, clearer midrange and top end - all the ways that LPS-1 improved my sound before taken to a new level with the LPS-1.2 Well done Uptone!

Given the large number of Auralic Aries users on here, has no one tried this device from the USB output of an Aries, compared with the more established Regen or iso Regen?

UltraCap™ LPS-1 LISTENING IMPRESSIONS thread

Well the ISO Regen has been running for a little under 24 hours now, fed by the LPS-1 (powered by the Meanwell) and so far the sound is gorgeous. Very refined. At this stage I would multiply all I've written about the LPS-1 by two to describe the two together...even lower noise floor, excellent dynamics, even fuller sound with much more of each note's nuances, longer lingering trails on appropriately recorded tracks, articulate and maybe slightly deeper bass. The overall sound is intensely musical. Even after just about 22 hours it's more like if I had a major preamp or power amp upgrade. I'll wait to see if all gets even better in the next 3 or four days. Even if it doesn't I'm happy (and I haven't yet added the USPCB to replace the short Curious). -

Congratulations, MikeyFresh. And score one more for the LPS-1. -

Charente, your question is a good one; many variables to consider, including the relative performance of your DAC via SPDIF IN compared with USB IN. If Alex is right that the IR is his most significant product to date, it could well be that you can expect improved sound by adding the IR (remember it's only for USB DAC Iinputs). I plan to add my IR to the LPS-1 tonight and will report in a few days what I hear. In the meantime I am not surprised to hear that you got a bump in sound quality by running your DDC from the LPS-1. I really think this LPS is a quiet game-changer for these low power devices. I feel certain we will hear more stories similar to yours about the LPS-1 if it's used appropriately.
