  1. @ecwl I cannot find a reference to this. Can you send it please?
  2. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. There is strong support for the Lyngdorf approach and I am intellectually drawn to it as well. As I mentioned in the opening post, I had a Meridian G68 in the past which was extremely capable but did not have the DSP of course. However, I felt the 2 channel presentation was very flat. My previous solution to that was to have 2 systems in the same room but that did not find many friends at home. I don't have a problem paying decent money for the right solution, but I am concerned that the AV controller route will be good for movies but leave me in the same dissatisfied place for stereo listening primarily on LP's. If I were to be asked for priorities I would say I am looking for 80% importance on 2 channel and 20% on multi-channel. A very good pre-amp, with or without tubes, might get me to the 80 mark. @ecwlmakes a good point about the complexity of having a pre-amp and a AV controller and the family being unable to use either. Unfortunately, I do not have a dealer nearby to home test the Lyngdorf so much of the decision will have to be taken without home demo
  3. Hello ShawnC. I suppose this is really where my instincts tell me to head. The issue is to find a matching audiophile DAC and Pre-amp, ideally with tube output stage. I don't know of one in the same box. Thanks again,
  4. My first blog so be gentle! I am seeking experienced thoughts on how to tackle what seems to me a rather intransigent problem. My primary system is in use both as a dedicated stereo playback system for LP's, CD;s and SACDs and as a family home theatre for Netflix through Apple TV and DVD. I have an outstanding stereo amplifier, excellent SME 20/2 turntable with a good MC stylus, high-end phono stage, an Oppo 203 multiplayer, and highly regarded front speakers. They are currently controlled by a Marantz AV7702 preamplifier which also controls the 2 rear speakers and a sub-woofer. The rear speakers take feeds from the Marantz into dedicated mono amplifiers. The sound is pretty good but not engaging enough for me. I am confident the Marantz is choking the sound. If I was looking only at a 2 channel system I would replace the Marantz with a Audio Research Ref 6 hoping the tube output stage might give me more of what I am after. If I were to do that I might also buy an Audio Research Ref 9 CD player with built-in DAC. (I have also been considering an Accuphase C2850 coupled with an Accuphase DP570 which has the advantage of being and point for streaming and plays SACD's. ). The Accuphase are not tube units but I know they do sound good and much better than what I am getting through the Marantz. Of course that means that I am sacrificing the surround sound advantages of the Marantz which frankly is what the rest of the family listens to mostly. I am a little confused as the above examples would complicate the system for my family but I really am dissatisfied with what I have now and wondered if there are others out there wrestling with the same issues. Multi-use, simplicity and great sound. Your advice and experience will be appreciated.
