  1. Hi All, I have a number of albums in WAV file format, so am manually adding in album art. With Asset UPNP, I can see that Folder.jpg give you the art for the artist and cover.jpg for each album folder. But when you click on the track to expand, I'm not getting the art. Some albums purchased do show the art when full screen. Any ideas/help appreciated.
  2. The french get it right Qobuz - Unlimited music and downloading in 24-Bit Hi-Res.
  3. Draw Your Swords by Angus & Julia Stone....nearly always brings me to tears....filled with such emotion and passion.....what a voice...
  4. It's funny...every forum has their share of people who smear the same posts with the same nonsense....on AVForums, it's a guy who call's himself Bluewizzard....he jumps all over cable posts....and when a mod pressed him, he revealed that his kit was A. Very old and B. budget end. In the end I added him to my ignore list as he was dragging not only that post type but a few others down....sad...he had a silly high number of posts...so he clearly spends all day every day on the forum....does he ever get the time to listen to music!
  5. I agree, in that if you have good electronics that pair well with a good set of speakers, cable differences become more apparent. But you need to have had a system left untouched for a while....you're not going to easily tell the difference over short listens. The more you live with your system the more you become familiar with how is sounds/performs. If you make a lot of system changes, and agonize over every change, it becomes harder to appreciate what those changes are actually doing for your overall system. For me, as much as this hobby is addictive, I try to focus on the Music, after all this is why we are playing this game. If my toes are tapping, this tells me I'm at least engaged in the recording, if they are not tapping, then it could be the music, or something in the system that is not working. Cables in a well matched (speaker/electronics) system do change the characteristics a bit, but it's not going to make the sound signature from the speaker sound drastically different. Unless we are talking about very cheap and nasty cable costing buttons. If you try to get all geeky about burn in periods and go down the path of using some form of scientific measurement as your benchmark on performance, then you're in a different place to me. I don't need graphs, measurements......I just listen to music I enjoy and trust my ears...why the heck not.....life is too short....if your enjoying the music, and feel nothing is missing, then surely that is a good place to be. If you like MP3 and an iPhone great, you've been lucky and saved yourself a lot of time and money. If you want to get as close to how the music sounds live or in studio, then you're likely to be after a bit more. There are no winners and losers in this kind of chat/debate.....you only really need to satisfy one person at the end of the day...yourself. Me....it's taken from age 18 to now close on 40 to get my system right.....sources might come and go as technology moves on and we get new file formats that need better more advanced DACs etc...but amplification, speakers are long term keepers for me, as are my cables....
  6. Actually it sounds even more like a block away now....when I played Ballad of BH....the opening effects....I thought I'd left a TV on in the other room.....no idea until now how they did that...I'll need to look into this Q Sound..... The ribbon tweeter on my Dali is a wide dispersion tweeter...so maybe exaggerates this more? Either way...the remaster sounds jaw dropping...and easily the best 24 bit album I own for showing off!
  7. A very valid point mate. I now have Qobuz subscription...so I get CD quality or better anyway....but when I had Sonos....MP3 via Spotify was fine while entertaining...
  8. Agreed, but we know MP3 is a heavy compression....so why would you select it at all...I've invested a lot into my system....I'm not going to play a compressed file via it...and these days I'm buying more and more 24 bit...not vinyl to 24 bit files...but mastered in studio at 24 bit.....there is a growing selection.....do I hear massive differences to 16 bit material...no...but in some albums I do hear bigger differences...all down to how well recorded and mastered the album is.....if it's poorly recorded...its going to sound bad on any format/file...
  9. Well that we can easily dismiss....the cable won't change the kelvin number...and the colour cast it produces......or would it?
  10. I have a pre/power combo, that I leave on all the time....they never go into Standby unless I'm away for a few days....when I power back on...it does take some hours to get back to optimal...not that it sounds bad from cold....but I do notice. Cables IMO make very subtle differences...but a lift in performance is a lift in performance. Are cables going to make as big a difference as going from an integrated amp to Pre/Power combo?...no...but if you can, why would you not want to maximise your system to a level you can afford? it's taken me many year to get to a stage I don't feel anything is missing....now I am just building a bigger music collection....
  11. At the end of the day...this is a hobby for most of us....and while cables make the smallest different to the overall sound of your system (unless going from really nasty, poorly terminated cables) IMO, there is no harm done. Cables are the icing on the cake. I have recently upgraded my own speaker cables, and to my ears, there was a difference after a few days of use, and my system is on daily unless I'm away from home. I like to think I'm objective.....I don't buy if I don't hear a difference....for example I borrowed some time back 2 Anthem M1 power amps to improve my 2ch for music...these are not cheap items...but I did not hear anything like a big enough improvement to justify even half the cost...so they went back! I had similar experience with Simaudio Moon electronics....did nothing for me...but others rave on and on about them....they just did not match well with my Dali speakers.....until I listened to them with Plinius....and it was more than a subtle improvement.....Moon out...Plinius in to stay!
  12. Granted....a well recorded album cut to MP3 can still convey the emotional connection with the music. But why suffer any loss in quality if you don't have too? Even if that difference is small....personally a well recorded album and I'll use the remastered Roger Waters Amused to Death album as an example again....sounds sublime at 24/192 WAV.....I have the old master on CD...and the difference is night and day....I'll take a blind test on that any time! I have friends that spend silly amounts on car parts to get just 3 more BHP.....but to them it's worth it. I don't think DSD will take off, and therefore have not bothered to get a DAC that does DSD and doubt I will. To my ears, 24 bit is as good as it's going to get....but happy to be wrong on that!
