  1. Just wondering, if my files are 16 bit am I going to loose anything or lower the quality of the sound if Playback bit depth is set at 24 ? If the files are 16 bit, is there any reason to have bit depth set to 24 ? Do you set it for 24 bit playback Only for 24 bit files ? I've read a little and there seems to be a debate about 24 bit vs 16 bit. I don't want to start that. I just hooked this laptop to dac to stereo up and haven't had much time to really toggle all the options and give a serious listen. Thanks
  2. Finally moved to a place I could set up my stereo. I just wanted to be able to plug in a laptop to my stereo so I ordered this Muse Mini USB DAC. Amazon.com: Signstek HIFI USB to Coaxial S/PDIF Converter Decoder Convert Digital to Analogue Signal Mini USB DAC PCM 2704 Chipset with USB Cable: Computers & Accessories I have some Bose AE2 headphones for now. Stereo is an Exposure XX Integrated Amp with Royd Sintra speakers. The build quality of the DAC is pretty good. Everything seems tight and solid, no rough/unfinished edges or anything visually out of alignment. It feels fairly sturdy and looks good. This is the only DAC I've listened to so this is more me saying yay to getting a DAC than a proper comparison/review of it. I thought my headphones sounded OK when plugged into the PC sound card. (now I'm thinking they didn't sound that good) I compared a couple songs with and without the DAC with my headphones. It's a day and night difference. I was hearing things I'd never heard before in songs I've listened to hundreds of times. The individual instruments were much more distinct. I could hear much more detail. All those little/slight sounds people make when playing an acoustic guitar were much easier to hear. I plugged the laptop and DAC into the stereo and loved trying out some flacs. So nice to be able to queue up music on my home stereo with Foobar.
  3. I just have sound going through the motherboard at the moment but I have Nvidia HD Audio Drivers installed from when I installed Video drivers. And I have MS HD Audio Device Drivers. In Device Manager>Sound I have Nvidia & MS show up as Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) and one show up as MS HD Audio by itself Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus). I'm using Foobar and everything works and sounds OK, but I'm confused as to whether the drivers work together or what. Would getting rid of one of them be preferable ? I think Realtek offers free HD Audio Drivers. Thank You
  4. Ordered a Muse USB DAC, just need a budget DAC for Laptop and Phone http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FEDHHKE?keywords=muse%20usb%20dac&qid=1452139704&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 nothing fancy
  5. Hi, thanks I have an Exposure Integrated Amp with Royd Sintra Speakers. Phone is a Moto G 3rf Gen which has USB OTG from what I've read. I emailed HiFimeDIY about their Android DAC and they said it would work for a stereo with RCA inputs as well as headphones. I'm looking to get a DAC for under $50 and a decent 3.5 mm to RCA Y Cable. It's just for casual use now.
  6. Hi, wanting to know if I need a DAC with it's own power to go from a phone to a Stereo (Integrated Amp with RCA input). Most of the small ones around $50 say they are for headphones and for going out from a PC sound card, so I'm not sure if one of those little DACs will get enough power from the phone to go to a stereo. I'm thinking there would be less power draw for a phone and DAC to give the signal to a stereo than to power headphones but I'm not sure how it all works. Will it drain the phone battery fast if it works without it's own power source ? I need a cheap/decent one to get by with for now. Thank You
  7. Thanks for the replies. The Auralic and most Network Streamers look a bit more than I want to spend on this. I don't need wifi, bluetooth would be nice but I'm OK with cables. I guess I just want to be able to plug everything in to a hub that goes into the integrated amp. Anything like that for less that $100 ? And then separate question if I just want to go from phone to integrated amp through DAC. Do the HiFimeDIY, Muse USB DAC and such work for phones ? Seems most USB DACs are for plugging a sound card into.
  8. Hi, not sure if this is to go between a soundcard which has it's own power and a stereo or if it will work for phone to stereo. 9. Hi, I'm looking for something I can use for USB (phone), TV input, FM Tuner and blue tooth to plug into an integrated amp. I think I'm looking for Pre Amp but could be wrong. I'm also wondering about an inexpensive DAC to plug a phone into an integrated amp with RCA input . Would this (Signstek HIFI USB to Coaxial S/PDIF Converter Decoder Convert Digital to Analogue Signal Mini USB) work ? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FEDHHKE?keywords=muse%20usb%20dac&qid=1452139704&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 I have an Exposure XX integrated amp from way back so it only has RCA input. Thank You
