  1. SOTM (Soul of the Music) SDP-1000 is well worth a listen I think. - battery powered (one in use, one charging) so very pure and black sound - True Asynchronous USB DAC, plus 2 SPDIF, Optical, AES - 1 x XLR Balanced Analogue Inputs, 2 x RCA Analogue - XLR balanced outputs - Fully balanced circuitry (I have not proven this for myself, but I believe them) - All volume control is in the Analogue Domain - and is bypassed at 0db I have this currently acting as both DAC and Pre into my Art Audio PX25 valve amps. Sounds great, driving it using the SOTM SMS-100 Media USB Renderer.
  2. Thanks for the repoly. IPAD 2, and yes I tried reinstalling several times.
  3. Thanks for the detailed reply. I followed this sequence to try and diagnose ... 1. Close Bubble on tablet 2. Run Bubble on S5 and stream TIDAL,play an album. Stuttering so I pause. Screen on all the time. 3. Exit bubble on S5 4. Run Bubble on tablet. Now playing and play list show th e album I streamed. 5. Pressing play causes Stuttering. 6. Stop and clear play list. Stream same album. No problem. Bubble have looked into this and the logs provided... "Your log files shows that the SOTM streams directly from TIDAL, so any stuttering would come from either the SOTM, it's network connection or TIDAL servers issues. BubbleUPNP is not involved during streaiming itself: it just provide the stream URL to the SOTM when a track begins." So all Bubble is doing is to send a list of URLs to the SOTM, but when that's done from the TABLET it works, when from the S5 it doesn't. Very odd. Bubble suggested I try proxying on the S5. I haven't yet, but I have checked it's disabled on both.
  4. Thanks - I probably didn't explain myself well enough. No problem streaming on the S5, but I had a problem casting to the SMS-100 from the S5, then it worked on the TAB. Thanks for the input anyway. I didn't know that Android 5+ resamples.
  5. I don't understand, fairly new to streaming but my understanding is that the control app simply sends a URL to the renderer, which then pulls the data from the source. No audio data should pass through the control, nor should any processing take place on it. Am I right ?
  6. Netgear READYNAS Duo (old) Library (Stock UPNP/DLNA) Ethernet into gigabit switch SOTM SMS-100 DLNA Renderer Stock USB cable into SOTM SDP-1000 DAC/PRE I usually use a valve pre but I'm redesigning and rebuilding it. Balanced outputs to Art Audio PX25 Lowther Horns (Icon Audio) Bubble UPNP on Galaxy Tab TIDAL HIFI TRIAL
  7. Yesterday I got my Network Audio Renderer (SOTM SMS-100) and had my first taste of true Asynchronous USB. Very impressed. POsting here because on my Galaxy S5 I had severe stuttering issues playing Tidal but later tried it from my Galaxy Tab and had a perfect evening's entertainment. Both running paid version of BubbleUPNP, same network. I've sent logs to Bubble, but I guess this COULD be down to logging into TIDAL again (in y case from a different device).
  8. Well that was a fun evening. The family sat playing cards and picking tracks for me to find and play. They almost NEVER comment on the quality of the sound, but they did tonight. All of us were astonished at how much clearer it was, how much more involving, attention-grabbing. "I've never been able to hear the words like that". And my eldest son who normally eschews music was tapping his feet and chair-dancing ! Definitely a success.
  9. CORRECTION - TIDAL casts from my TABLET are working fine, but from my S5 phone they stutter like mad.
  10. OK after 2 hours listening to my SMS-100 I can report I'm well impressed. It's in DLNA mode, hooked into my SDP-1000 DAC (standard USB cable supplied with the SDP), controlled by BubbleUPNP. Currently it's using the standard power supply - the battery unit has just been ordered ! This is a keeper. So far I've played content local to the tablet and also from my NAS - no issues whatsoever. Have played FLAC ripped direct from CDs with the same track playing on the CD transport (TEAC VRDS) so I can switch between them. The SDP-1000 remembers volume settings for sources which makes comparison easier. The FLAC->SMS-100 is WAY ahead of the CD. I've also played some hi-res tracks (HD Tracks sampler download) and the recordings definitely sound high quality, though I didn't like the music :-) I also played some MP3s accidentally, 320kbps rips and they sounded really good too. The only issue I've had is with TIDAL. I can't find a way to play direct from the TIDAL app to DLNA, but playing from BubbleUPNP seems to work ok, but the music stutters really badly. I've sent the log file to Bubble. I can't see any settings on the SMS-100 which might affect it - anyone have any pointers ? I'll try lowering the resolution on TIDAL. Anyway - great little device.
  11. I have a further question ... I read this ... "The SOtM Mini Server has an integrated, high precision volume control..." Is it possible to bypass that ? Unnecessary manipulation of data is something to be avoided right ?
  12. Hi all - glad to find this thread. For the record - the support provided by Jesus was a major factor in my purchasing decision. Who buys his beer ? I have an SOTM SDP-1000 and this should be a great match. Should arrive today. I have a smallish NAS library (mostly mp3 and FLAC). I plan to use BubbleUPNP on my S5 and/or the Galaxy Tab for Control purposes. The SMS-100 will run in DLNA mode. - Can I use either BubbleUPNP or the TIDAL app to play TIDAL to the SMS-100 ? - How do I stream internet radio to the SMS-100 ? Once it's bedded in I'll look at power supply. Battery unit or a linear power supply ?
  13. Lots of good advice here - thanks for that. I'll work my way through those. I'd be happy to consider abandoning the NAS if necessary. I'd actually be keen to buy an SSD drive to install into the Mini. I'd consider MinimServer - I think it even supports my NAS (fairly old NetGear ReadyNas Duo). My concern is that I can't even get the ipad app to stay up for more than a minute at a time without crashing. Not gracefully, no errors, no logs, no clues as to the issues. If that was stable I'd have a bit more confidence to invest the time and effort, but right now out of the box it plain doesn't work. What's the point of buying a streamer, then having to put all the music on the box, but not even being confident that you'll be able to talk to it. Still - step by step.
  14. Thanks Austin. Yes it's one subnet 192.168.0.xxx, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. There's one gateway, one DHCP server. See above, I managed to get a connection, but sadly couldn't make the app stay up for more then 30 seconds or so.
  15. Partial success - followed by repeated tragic failures. I found a setting on the ASUS under LAN - IPTV labelled "Enable Multicast Routing (IGMP Proxy)" and enabled that. I also renamed the 5GHz SSID unique from the 2.4 and ensured the IPAD was ONLY connecting to that. Went through the setup again, giving the Mini the new 5GHz SSID and login (even though it's wired) and hey presto - the app saw it ! It even recognised the USB connection to my SOTM DAC. Unfortunately I have yet to get it to play anything. I've had about 30 attempts with various failures. The Lightning App crashes at various points. It has tried a few times to load the library of tracks on my NAS (about 2,000 of them) and the app usually crashes at around 60 to 70% (not consistent). Restarting the app after a crash it will sometimes not see the device (10%) and the rest of the time not see the music library (90%). In both cases, selecting "Just Start Up" gets me to the main screen. From there I can go to the music library and try refreshing the cache, whereupon it usually crashes. I bypassed the library and went to browse folders once and was able to see music files. First file I tried it couldn't play. Second file it tried, but no music and after about 40 seconds the app crashed anyway. I also tried radio - was able to get a list of stations, but no sound. Frankly I'm not in the mood to listen to music. I'll give it another go over the weekend, after which it's going back. I'm the geek/tinkerer of our household - lord knows the reaction if I ever gave this to my wife to play some music.
