  1. Got it. I used the OpenVPN server on the router (forgot it was there) and added an OpenVPN client to my iPhone. Works like a charm with no port forwarding. Thanks for the tip! Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  2. Are you talking about creating a VPN from the router side and then connecting the iPhone to it? I have an Asus RT-AC68 router which I believe does this and I also use Plex for video. Closing those ports would make the firewall stronger. I couldn't get DSD to stream on my iPhone 6 Plus either using JRemote and know the iDSD Micro supports it.
  3. I understand completely. That is why I bought a used iDSD. If I do buy the app I will let you know how the combo works. Balcy
  4. I just downloaded NePLAYER Lite and it looks very promising. However, it doesn't see my DLNA server on my DS411+II so nothing streams. Is streaming not included with the Lite version? One thing that bothers me with streaming audio is not knowing what is really happening with the music itself, is it being transcoded etc. Using the iDSD there is an LED that changes color to tell you what is there. NePLAYER seems to take that even further which I like. EDIT: I just read the small print in NePLAYER and see it takes the full version to use networking (streaming). That's too bad as that is what I was interested in trying most and am leery to spend money audio unheard.
  5. I had been using DS Audio for a few years to stream off my Synology NAS until I found JRemote, which I really like. Now it is my go to for music on my iPhone 6 Plus. I think all iOS audio apps that stream are limited by Apple to 24/48 output, at least I have not found a way to go higher with my iDSD Micro. I started using JRMC in the audio only days and did not fully understand its capabilities. I thought it was just program bloat. Now I use it to stream video/photos to my smart TV as well and love it. 6. That is the beauty of music. Everyone may not like the same stuff but most can appreciate the talent needed to succeed. I think what made the Eagles so special is they weren't just singers in a rock and roll band. Every one of them had written/co-written several hit songs with lyrics that actually said something. It certainly wasn't just the Henley and Frey show (although they were the main stars). The longtime conflict between Henley wanting to go more hard edge rock and Frey sticking to their country roots certainly pushed both to be better song writers. It was truly magical when they collaborated and now that magic is gone forever making many in my generation very sad. I think what really bothers me most about this article from Baird is there are those who can do in this world and those who can't, but they often criticize those who can probably out of jealousy. He seems to fit into the later category. His opinions were certainly ill-timed at best.
  7. Wow. I read the article after seeing this thread and most of the comments. I graduated high school in 1977 with The Eagles my favorite band (I saw them live in 1978). Some 39 years later that hasn't changed one bit. With Glenn Frey's passing a part of me has died, as I identify with that generation and its music. I suspect it is the same with Elvis fans from the 50s and 60s. This guy taking shots at one of the most successful bands ever is ridiculous. I was never a fan of The Rolling Stones but would not try and trash their success. That would make me sound like an idiot. Well Mr. Baird, you sir sound like an idiot now. Were they overplayed on the radio? Yes. Was it because people liked listening to them? Yes. How is that now their fault? I probably replaced Their Greatest Hits cassette 3 or 4 times over the years due to excessive wear. Thank goodness for the digital revolution as that is no longer a problem. RIP Glenn Frey. You will be missed.
  8. 1. DS Audio sounds great from my iPhone 6/CCK to the iDSD. It plays fine, no skips or buffering. 2. I tried playing a 24/192 FLAC file and only got a green light on the iDSD. The same file from my desktop computer and thru JRMC connected via USB had a yellow light on the iDSD which is correct. I checked the advanced settings on Audio Station and made sure transcoding/downsampling was turned off so there shouldn't have been any manipulation going on. I will keep looking.
  9. So this transcodes MP3s on the fly (no file conversion necessary)? That is really cool! Thanks! Balcy
  10. I can let you know in a couple of days. I have a Synology 411 + II, DS Audio on my iPhone 6 Plus and have an Ifi iDSD Micro/Apple CCK coming in 2 days. I can't wait to run that setup to my Beyer T1 headphones. My library is primarily 16/44 FLACs/320 MP3s but I do have a couple of 24/192 FLAC files to test. No DSDs yet though. Balcy
