  1. Thanks for replying Windows X. What you said does make sense to me now. Come to think of it, I have read that the previous Xonar cards such as the STX use an older chipset. Asus allows their operation on the PCIE bus through a interface controller chip that sits between the PCIE bus and the cards chipset. The older PCI Xonar cards such as the Xonar ST did not have the interface chip as they were operating natively on the PCI bus. I have a machine running Windows 8.1 with the Realtek ALC 1150 audio chipset. While this is onboard sound Gigabyte has upgraded the 1150 with Nichicon capacitors and included a Burr Brown OP-AMP. I was wondering if I can expect better sound from the 1150 by upgrading to Windows 10. Thanks.
  2. Actually, I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and my Xonar STX sounded poor with uninspiring sound. The sound signature was tinny and one dimensional. Hoping Windows 10 would resolve this issue I did a clean install of Windows 10. The Xonar sounded pretty poor in Windows 10 as well. Actually, the problem was more pronounced than it was in Windows 8.1. This is before the December update for Windows 10 which was significant. I don't know if the new Win 10 build improved things as I already downgraded.
