Of course you need DSD! Everybody needs DSD!!! Just humour by the way, although it's purely subjective. I, for one, enjoy both hi-res pcm and upsampled dsd256, depending on the recording.
-
Wow, just wow!!! Dream DAC!!!
-
I think it's just normal, once hi-res gets commercialised even further. You should expect prices to reach $30+, at some point, especially surround recordings.

I would definitely consider the adam acoustic, but that's just a personal thought

Mivera Audio Superstream Transport/Server: another contender?
pipis2010 replied to Doak's topic in Music Servers
I don't know guys, there's no mention of CPU or RAM or anything. Such a product can upsample to DSD512? Other people here spend similar money to build desktop/server units to upsample with HQP...maybe something fishy? Just wondering... -
Lampizator Big 7 has landed

How come more people haven't tried Daphile yet? It can upsample to DSD and I am pretty sure its filters are not as computing-intensive as HQP... -
Well I am already seeing people using Xeons at higher prices, so I wouldn't be surprised. Besides, give it 6-12 months and the price will drop, give it 2-3 years and you have a great cpu that will last for many years.

Most deals in the USA in computer parts, are good deals. In Europe, it's another story, at least in some countries anyway...

Just curious, when it comes to really expensive components like $5-$10-$20-$50k, do people become so obsessed with measurements as they seem to do over a $600+ device? -
I am not a hi-end whiz nor do I own a really hi-end system (actually entry to mid-level), but my personal view and from what I have heard until now is that I enjoy DSD upsampling, at least up to DSD256. That's a personal view/taste. Now, if we consider that DSD512 is the sweet spot (though debatable, as we still have to check DSD1024), i am pretty sure I will enjoy it further. Add to this the fact that there will be plenty more pure DSD recordings released in the near future, I say we are on the great path to enlightenment (according to many people). For me it's DSD all the way!
-
Agreed, but I would also suggest that they save even more money in any future upgrades as well. So, yes, more money invested now, but better ROI in the future, especially with the arrival of DSD1024 and who knows what else...

There is a new baby in town, although much more expensive. i7-69xx, 10-core/20 threads, 25MB...when will we see systems based off of this cpu?

And that's what we like to hear! -
I think the problem with older cpus starts with trying to upsample to DSD256 and above...
