  1. The link for MusiChi software is now here: https://musichieu.wordpress.com/about/ The original link is now used to sell a hardware based server device. I'm not sure how actively the software is being maintained these days, but I've been using the tagger and library manager on Windows for a few years and am very happy with it. I don't use the player as I have a Logitech Squeezebox linked to my NAS as a player. I pretty much keep a cheap Windows NUC for ripping and tagging and the occasional other thing that I don't have a Mac application for that I like using. I'd love to find something that works well for classical music on my Mac laptop as I occasionally do use it as a player. Mainly, when I'm out of the house, it's Foobar 2000 on an iPad or iPhone. That works pretty well. I especially like the way it works with TuneFusion to keep the iPhone in sync with the collection on my NAS. Unfortunately, Foobar for Mac is very bare bones. I've seen JRiver recommended before and I must check it out.
  2. I have been looking for something to stream from a music player on Windows to my Marantz amp that supports AirPlay. I came across TuneBlade which seems to the job pretty well. I don't have a high end system, so I can't make detailed comparisons on quality but it is simple and cheap (£7.99) and has a demo version. It's been stable and just does what it claims to for me, at least.. As it doesn't seem to be mentioned much, I thiugth I'd post a note here. Usual disclaimers...
  3. As there's already a longish thread on the merits of MusiCHI, I thought I'd start a new thread where users can share tips and ask specific how to questions. As a total newbie to MusiCHI, my first question is how to deal with arrangements and transcriptions? Busoni, for example or Elgar's Third Symphony that was actually completed by Anthony Payne? Any thoughts???

    MusiCHI Suite

Well, just to follow up on my (much) earlier post... I finally found some time to play with the demo and, on the basis of my experience I bought the suite. I am very impressed with the capabilities of the tagger. It does know about some pretty obscure composer (Imogen Holst was there) but not necessarily the catalogues of their music - but it does have a lot more than I expected. Also a lot of performers (orchestras, soloists, conductors, and more). The support is also excellent, from my experience so far. I wholeheartedly recommend it..

You can do it in MusiCHI tagger, as long as the format is reasonably consistent. Here's my take on it (note I haven't done it for real but it seems to work in a test). I'll try to add a screen shot to make it clearer... 1) Load tracks into the tagger and select the ones you want to work on. 2) Use the Text Processing option on the Edit menu. 3) In the edit screen, select 'Operations with Two Tags' (a tab at the top) 3) Choose the relevant Tags: Source will be Title and Target will be Custom 3 4) Choose 'Search/From Text' on the left and 'RegEx' from the drop down in the middle and the radio button for Opus on the right. This will populate the 'Text to find' box with an impressively comprehensive regular expression to pick out the opus details. 5) Set the actions to 'Copy only' and 'Replace all text' Check the results in the right hand column and, if it looks OK, hit 'Proceed' It all depends on the title containing the Opus number in a reasonably consistent format. In the screen shot, you can probably see that the first title doesn't have an opus number - so you'll no dount have to do some manual tidying up afterwards. Good luck....

    MusiCHI Suite

Thanks for the very full reply - I have downloaded the trial version of MusiCHI and installed it but I can see a learning curve ahead of me! On top of that, I am having problems with my NAS at the moment, so it will be next week before I can get back to it - I hope that the trial period doesn't run out before I work out how to use it... I have quite a bit of less well known English music (eg Hely Hutchinson, Finsey, Imogen Holst and some collections of short English lighter classical pieces by people like Ketelby) and I suspect that it isn't in the database (but it might just be that I don't know how to use it yet - as I even had problems with Elgar and Parry...). Thanks again..

    MusiCHI Suite

That's interesting - I came here as I've been looking on and off for a better way of handling my small classical music collection. My files are also stored on a Synology NAS. I could run Minim server on the NAS but I currently use Logitech Media Server and play then via a Squeezebox Touch to my Marantz amp. Not in the same league as your Kinsky set up but I have a small room and limited means (and my ears are nearly 70 years old!). My music has been ripped over a few years and, as a result, is tagged in an inconsistent way and lots of info is missing. I guess the Clean function would be a big help here. How would I use MusiCHI? I don't see how the player would play via my hifi system. Or, if I just use to sort out all the tags, I doubt the full info would show via the Squeezbox interface. Has anyone any thoughts here?
