  1. Quality speaker all the way, it is completely different experience than headphone. Speakers sounds much real natural palpable which is the most important to me, it is airy easy without boundaries, visceral...As nice as some headphone sound (and to be little objective there are of course some advantages in sound) but overal sound is compromise in most cases, also ears can quite often quickly tired which is big problem, also noticeably more dangerous for ears in longer run. And current prices of top headphone is honestly funny. But I can give one big point to headphones, strangely I listened them more often in past almost every day. Speakers I use 1-2x for week when I have mood for it.
  2. I was inquisitive so I went with my Brooklyn to the local shop and tried at least two hours Audeze LCDX, LCD3 and HiFiMAN HE560 to see how headphhones play out of the Brooklyn hp output. Mm I have to say I really like the sound of the Audeze. I owned a few years back LCD2 and had borrow on 1month LCDX at home last year. Strangely I found LCD3 more flatter neutral dry than LCDX (do not know what versions it was, I guess LCD3 no fazor and LCDX version 2015) and for this reason LCD3 had better feel losing from head when played. LCDX had some little colour which I do not know how to explain it but still their clean sound absorb you. LCDX is more extended(reverberation), more dynamic too than LCD3, also LCDX is a little more forward but if you listen music on lower volume(as me) maybe it can be small advantage. So LCD3 was against LCDX hollower and noticeable flat which I was surprised, reason could be Brooklyn and LCDX could have better synergy because it is easier drive. HE560 was very nice sounding, it sounded just normal and evidently narower, probably more truth sound, less atmosphere and weight against Audeze. I prefer more biger sound of Audeze and their natural focus on faithful feel. At the end different between LCDX and LCD3 was not big, both share base Audeze house sound. But because I felt LCDX is more dynamic from Brooklyn (probably better synergy) I would grab them. So I do not see big problem to drive quality planar headphone via hp output of the Brooklyn. But there is probably still place to get better sound with real one quality separate hp amp. But for normal people I do not see problem use Brooklyn as only one system, for example LCDX is very very good together which I expected.
  3. It is harder to give you good advice from me because I no longer use headphones but in past I had quite a lot in my live but I had different system. But I think Brooklyn as preamp or headphone amp can be really even final solution for most "normal people" cannot find better word it is that good. I think reason why Mytek call ok with hard to drive headphones because it can add 6watts to low impendence. 500 pounds is around 630 dolars, do not buy new headphones. Look at HiFiMAN HE560 from second hand it sounds very good in all areas I think most planars like quality all in one system and Brooklyn is very dynamic clear piece. Also some Audeze LCD2 from second hand could be good option too, obviously more warmer than HiFiMAN but better mids. I am just bigger fan of planars more than dynamic headphones, it sounds according to me more versatile, accurate and natural and you can not go wrong to use them with quality all in one piece like Brooklyn.. If you are still undecide try write on headfi forum but from what I have seen there is almost zero info about Brooklyn "strangely"
  4. I have borrow Hugo half year and ok it is fine. I do not know how Hugo TT or Dave. But hugo is overpriced I could not buy it as well as 2Qute which will be probably similar, even my Brooklyn is noticeable better for me on my system than Hugo. I agree with most you choosed very carefully popular adult good dacs which is on your list, probably does not matter which one but Yggy is so popular that if you will not like it I think you will always good sell it which is very important thing to consider.
  5. I can not help you much because there is a lot options on DAC and speakers, hard to choose actually . But did you sugest to your bedrum PRO active speakers? You have beauty audiophile highend speaker so it could be for you good contrast to try quality PRO active speaker. For example Event Opals from second hand looks as great options. Of course many options in actives Focal, ME Geithain, Quested, PSI, Harbeth.. I have Sveda Audio mid fields and I am very happy with it, feeding it only with DAC/Pre.
  6. I do not listen much my system probably for only once a week but I have to say I am very happy. I wanted buy mainly one diy top preamp and wanted see how big difference there will be against Brooklyn preamp and wanted try separate power supply but unfortunately money is tight a little now. Anyway I think sound is amazing via DAC/PRE of the Brooklyn to my lovely active speaker. I am actually quite surprised that preamp in the Brooklyn is also quality very usable. Have to upgrade firmware and finally also try MQA .. Is it here anybody who have chance to listen Yggdrasil next to the Brooklyn? It is quite popular dac on headfi etc..
  7. Hey I am headphone guy but unfortunately I do not have hp at this moment I sold them before I bought Brooklyn, I am using active speaker now so I am using Brooklyn as dac/pre. But Mytek claims in their preorder video that Brooklyn have quality powerfull hp amp "even for your most demanding headphone" which I think will be true because preamp is pretty good usefull in my opinion. Also from photos Mytek used some planars Audeze, HiFiMAN on meetings with their Brooklyn. Also planars sounds very good out of the dac/pre/hp amp in one box in my past experience so i would not worry. But truth is if you want highend sound from your hp I guess it will sound better with separate amp something like HeadAmp GSX mk2 behind Brooklyn. But as I said I think preamp is pretty usefull (much much better than Chord Hugo) so I guess hp amp will be too. Although what I do not understand why Mytek did not use on Brooklyn more solid PSU but it is on another topic..
  8. Some song pretty amazing, listened Ramin Djawadi, Axel Schultheiss and vocal guitar music and some dance music. I am using it as dac preamp for active speaker. I think maybe some quality a little lower price dac with nice diy preamp could be better as whole. But I think I will be happy, good all in one Brooklyn. I will make some nice picture during time.
  9. Finally I could listen a little Brooklyn. Firstly I hope I set up it good not sure. Second I will wait for more burn. But for now intial impressions is very good sound is bigger, more accurate, more detailed, more dynamic, more bass etc. then Hugo. But I like on Hugo more peacefull flow sound it is sound more right to me strangely because I really think preamp is not the strongest side of the Hugo and overal I think it has far from reference sound but it sound quite nice.. But as I said will wait for more burn, Brooklyn have definitely potencial. One ask How I can off Brooklyn? And is it normal it is quite hot internal supply? A little smell too.
  10. Can sombody recomend me some free and easy player for Apple? I will try Brooklyn at least from macbook my brother but I do not have experience with players for apple, I will give there some flac, DSD files. Thanks Will it work native?
  11. Mm I have one notebook where I have Vista, I do not want instal newer os because of notebook is very old. So I gave one my another computer on repair and they will instal New Win also but I am waiting 3 weeks and still waiting unbelievable.
  12. It is sad but my Brooklyn still waiting on his chance..
  13. I did not look to manual yet. But when I plug in power cable to Brooklyn and USB to computer, display loading a few seconds but than there is nothing on display, my guess(hope) is, it is because of drivers are not instaled in my pc.
  14. I know Vista etc. it is very old. But it is strange a little Meitner, Chord almost all manufactures support all systems. Marc do you think firmware? If yes I do not know where I can find which version I have.
  15. Finally my piece came. Firstly I think black one would by nicer than silver (what can you do now ) and uff it is so small. My mini review I read here that it will not go with older operation systems but I did not believe this statement but now I believe it not go with Vista. Grr I am lazy to buy external disk and back up my data and install new windows. Why no older systems for lazy people which have older notebooks why, why...
