  1. I often do not have access to an internet connection and I would like to play the music files that reside on my MacBook hard drive. I get a message that my license can not be confirmed when loading Audirvana . Is there a setting or work around?
  2. I highly recommend the Lynx Hilo and pure vinyl. I have done a few hundred to flac 24/192. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. One of the first production mountain bikes. Old Shimano XT. Wheelbase and a ride like a Cadillac.
  4. I have a Lynx Hilo ($2,400) and the TC Electronic Impact Twin ($400). Based on 2 channel listening the Impact Twin is a great value. I am about to try tri-amping with Pure Music so I will report on my experience. Thanks for the write up Bob. It was helpful.
  5. Interesting article in Computerworld. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9237727/How_big_is_the_sound_of_music_
  6. I missed this thread the first time around. I started ripping vinyl to get a digital version as a back up just in case I damaged the vinyl and also to digitize versions that were not available in any other media form. As DACs, ADCs and ripping software got better and more convenient I now am spending more time with digital than vinyl. I have progressed through the following DACs, ADCs while using Pure Vinyl software in all set ups: DAC: Wavelength Brick, ADC: Apogee Duo DAC: Wavelength Brick, ADC: TC Electronic Impact Twin TC Electronics Impact Twin as DAC and ADC Furutech ADL GT40 as DAC and ADC Lynx Hilo as DAC and ADC Other equipment in the mix: Customized Ortofon XLR tonearm cable Auditorium 23 step up transformer Transparent USB cable Belkin Gold USB cable Currently, when I buy vinyl I try to digitize the first playing. To the OPs question the best results for the money in my limited experience was the Impact Twin at around $400 plus the cost of a modified tonearm XLR or 1/4 plug cable to suit your cartridge output.
  7. When I was a kid I tricked out my first buick, along with the few vw's and a few hondas that followed. I got into the installation process and the tinkering. As I got to improving my home system a bit later in life I gave up seeking quality sound in a car. For me there is a limited return on the investment. To much ambient noise and the acoustics of most cars is a challenge. I can still enjoy decent sound that does not clip but most stock radios have that covered. That said, for the first time in about 7-8 cars I upgraded the stock radio in my honda. I got a $129 Alpine. I would not have gotten it but I was looking for a bluetooth hands free set and the Apine was only $40 more. It does sound a bit better than the stock and the tuner is much better. It has a USB input that I have not played with yet. The iphone 5 with bluetooth sounds great. I listen to a lot of downloaded audio books, football, baseball and music in that order in the car. Just like old times...I did get carried away by the tinkering thing. Built a mount for the iphone with a support and two magnet mounting positions for landscape and portrait.
  8. I did exactly this. Had a great visit with Sean and his crew. Drove up to big Sky and toured Yellowstone on snowmobiles. I have heard the speakers you are considering. They were not harsh even in the driver burn in room at zu.
  9. Some more office pictures: SACD ripping with a little tv screen. Bar turntable and grandfather picture CA on both macs one with Mac OS and one with Windows 7
  10. Sorry I took so long to reply. I really do like the hilo. It is the best sound I have had to date in my system. My dac (adc) history includes a nuforce icon, a fiio e17, wavelength brick, a tc electronics impact twin, classe cp800 and a furutech adl gt40. The hilo sounds great and just took a big step up with the firmware update to include direct DSD playback. I gave the hilo a try at the suggestion of Rob Robinson (pure vinyl). The convenience of having a high quality dac and a adc in one unit was also attractive. If you are on a budget the gt40 is the best bang for the buck I have heard. The classe does a remarkable job with even low quality source files. While the hilo provides more detail and space than all but the classe. The hilo fit my budget better than the classe and it was a slightly better fit with the my system components. I think generally that all dacs above a certain level are good but at a another certain point the fit with your other gear takes control of the selection process.
  11. I am in the process of ripping sacds and they sound great with a lynx hilo. I have been a pure music user for years but I had some issues uploading my dsd files so I downloaded audirvana to give it a shot. I currently like the audirvana sound better that the flac file sound from pure music. I particularly like the ability to load iso files directly to audirvana with out the need to parse out the individual dsd files as is required by pure music. There is suppposed to be an upgrade of pure music that has improved sound so I will continue to compare the two. I seem to notice a slightly faster speed or pace with audirvana. Has anyone else noticed this or am I hearing things?
  12. Thanks Ted. Ripping SACDs like crazy.
