  1. Hi! I also posted the following in the Roon support forum, but maybe you guys could help me too: After updating Roon the other day i noticed short clicks/distortions during playback. They don't occur always at the same positions in a track, so they are not reproduce-able. They happen every 20 sec on average. I didn't change my system, nor did i change the Roon setup (no HQP), just the update. It doesn't' matter if i play music from the NAS or Tidal HiFi. Tested the same Tracks with foobar2000, no clicks, everything is fine. My system: Windows 10 (up to date) Roon (with Tidal HiFi) Exclusive Mode current driver for DAC Musical Fidelity MX-DAC, attached by USB Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Pumpe19
  2. Thanks for the answer Cornan. Sorry for not being clear, actually just ordered aforementioned stuff (the AQVOX just arrived, the rest should arrive today too (with the exception of the Regen)). Your suggestion for the setup (transport, Jitterbug, Regen, vBus) makes sense i guess: this way the "magic" the Regen does to the signal won't be tempered with. Hope i got it right Concerning the AQVOX Usb cable i just installed, well kinda disappointed at the moment. For now, i can't make out any sonic difference between the Ultraviolet 7 USB and the more than twice as expensive AQVOX USB cable. Well maybe it's a matter of breaking in the cable. Going to let it play for the next two days and switching than back might show some sonic differences. Anyway, nice weekend to all. Cheers, Jan

  4. So, finally found some time to do a little testing. And yes, there actually was a difference between running my laptop powered by the PSU and running on battery. The magnitude of the difference is very much dependent on the kind of music I was playing. The more convoluted a track is (e.g. At The Drive-In, Mastodon,…) the more the SQ profited of the laptop running on battery. Instrument staging was more defined, more breathing room for each sound (describing sound isn’t my strong suit as you might have guessed by now. Not in a foreign language, not in my native tongue. Still, hope I could get my point across ) To address this problem short term (long term Aurender N100H) ordered some upgrades: - sbooster vBus Isolator - AQVOX usb cable - Uptone Regen - sBosster 5v LPSU for the Musical Fidelity MX-DAC The vBus isolator might help with the aforementioned problem. Thing is, I don’t know how well it will play with the JitterBug. Should they by connected in series at the laptop end? Maybe someone already has some experience with these two devices in conjunction. Furthermore I’m not a 100% sure if the MX-DAC needs the usb power (for handshake at least). However, should’t be a problem either way: cut the power via vBus isolator at the source, transmit the signal per usb cable to the regen, which then adds power (if needed) to DAC. If the DAC doesn’t need any power from usb, maybe the isolator would be better placed between Regen an DAC? Anyway, all this possible combinations should do for a fun testing session this weekend. Any tips welcome. Will report any findings, might proof usefull to the ONE other guy on this planet who uses a Muscial Fidelity MX-DAC Cheers, Pumpe19 Edit: I get a feeling that i might be in the wrong thread...
  5. Worth a try, haven't thought about it. Thanks, will report back.
  6. Thanks for the reply Alex. Will keep the JS-2 in mind as future update to my DAC. For now i could only hope for the REGEN to make a noticeable improvement to SQ, as the two JitterBugs and various usb cables didn't make a noticeable difference of any kind. No idea why, maybe my DAC actually does something very right when reconstructing the USB signal. My goal was to add a little bit of warmth to the sound, taking of the "digital edge" a bit, which sometimes is apparent when listened to with the HD800s. Hope to give the REGEN a try before Christmas (Ordernumber #3218). All the best, Jan P.S. Guess the source might be the problem sometimes. Thinking about getting rid of the laptop as transport and using something like the Aurender N100, which is supposed to have a more "analog" sound signature.
  7. Hi! Just ordered a Regen (which i have to wait for quite a while i guess. Gotta be shipped to germany). Even though i ordered one, i would be interested if someone tried the Regen with a Musical Fidelity MX-DAC? Furthermore i'm thinking about upgrading my "power supply setup". If it can be called a setup. Actually it's just two crude multiple plugs. If i were to get a JS-2, which of my components would profit the most out of the two JS-2 sockets? Laptop, Regen, DAC or Amp (details in my signature)? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Pumpe19
  8. So, you are saying WLAN is superior to Powerlan. Convenience wise for sure, but what about the quality of the signal? Any explanation why WLAN > Powerlan? I'm not trying to be irritating, just wanna learn as much as possible to make an informed decision. Thanks, Pumpe19
  9. Thanks for your answers. The variety of opinions in this thread (and elsewhere on the net) suggests that i have to test it for myself. So i ordered some AudioQuest Forest Ethernet cables. Will see. The problem is, that my setup is that far away from the rooter and nas, that the only possible network options are power lan or wlan. Question remains: powerlan and "some kind" of ethnernet cable or plain wlan. Cheers, Pumpe19
  10. Ja, that's what i feared. Seems to come down to personal preference again. For once with this audiophile stuff a nice, simple answer: powerlan is bad/great cause reasons, would have been nice. Anyway, thanks. Cheers, Pumpe19
  11. Thanks ericuco for your tip about the cables, even though these brand might be a little bit hard to come by in these parts of the world (Germany). Still, that doesn't answer my question about singal degradation over PowerLan.
  12. Hello. Gotta question about ethernet cables. Thing is, mine broke and so bevor buying the next cheap replacement cable i thought, why not ask the pros Below my current setup: Synology 414 NAS - Windows 10 Laptop with Roon (+Tidal Hifi) -> Ultraviolet 7 USB 2.0 -> Musical Fidelity MX-DAC -> Straight Wire Rhapsody S XLR (balanced) -> Musical Fidelity MX-HPA -> stock, unbalanced cable -> Sennheiser HD800 The NAS is connected via LAN to a router, which hosts a WLAN as well as a DLAN (PowerLan). Thats how my Laptop (the music transport) is connected to the network: by LAN to an DLAN oulet. My question now is, does it make sence to use audiophile etchernet cad7 cables? Or is the degradation of the signal by the DLAN to significant to make an difference anymore? Thanks for any helpfull answers. Cheers, Pumpe19
