I swear I've seen some free software that allows you to record music from YouTube videos and other online sources without needing to go the route of connecting the output of a sound card to the the computer input, but for the life of me I can't recall any names. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm asking for a friend who only has a laptop.

Optical Drive for Audiophile/Archive-Quality Burning
dbxdx5 replied to dbxdx5's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
I know most people here focus on CD-R ripping, but no one has any opinions on the best drives for writing CD-Rs? I've read that Pioneer and Teac used to make some good drives low error and low jitter writing, but I don't know if the newer models are considered in the same league. -
I apologize in advance if this has been covered elsewhere, but is there a brand/model of optical drive that's considered tops in terms of accurate CD-R writing, i.e. lowest error rates, low jitter, etc.? From what I've read, Plextor used to be the go-to brand but has since fallen from favor, due to the fact that the drives are now rumored to be re-branded Pioneers and Lite-Ons. Thanks for any input!

Thanks for the input everyone. Right now I'm using the M-Audio Audiophile 192 as my A/D converter for making vinyl and tape transfers to digital, so I'm covered in that respect. I'll check out the Yamaha and Teac.

So I'm looking for an external CD burner to handle my analog transfers reliably and accurately. I'd like to stay around or under $100. Any nominations for something audiophile? Right now I have an Optiarc that came with my desktop (and is currently inoperable). Thanks Matt
