  1. Thanks. Yes I confirmed this myself by installing several different systems that let me see the settings - moode, ropieee v3, and dietpi. Each time the settings were lost. i wish ropieee v4 would install the little screen driver script when you choose Boss2 DAC as the HAT. It’s python 3 now, so he could do it easily.
  2. Hi - I've been using the Allo Boss 2 with Ropieee v3 for a while. V3 allowed me to SSH in and add support for the screen & remote. This allowed to me to set up the voyage level, filter, and filter speed to my preferences. Now I've installed Ropieee V4 on a new microSD card, and replaced the microSD card in the Boss2. V4 doesn't have SSH, so I can't set up support for the screen and have no way of seeing or changing the voltage level, filter, and filter speed. My question is -- are my V3 settings saved on the Boss2 DAC in non-volatile memory? So that my new V4 installation is using my old V3 settings? Or are the settings saved on the SD card and replacing the V3 card with a new V4 card resets the settings to default?

    HQ Player

Thank you Miska! With 4.18.1 Roon and HQPlayer are working together via localhost on my new Mac Studio. Joy!

Oh yeah, 4.18 works perfectly without Roon. And Roon works perfectly without HQplayer. It's a problem with the two of them working together.

Also, just tried it with Qobuz as a source, instead of hard drives. Roon still loses control of audio device after a few seconds. This is HQPlayer 4.18.0 on Mac Studio, Roon on same computer, via localhost.

The source content is on external hard drives connected to the Mac Studio via USB. My music collection is gigantic, so SSDs and internal drives are not an option. One interesting clue is that it time's out/Lost control of audio device after playing a few seconds of music. So it's not waiting for the hard drive to spin up. It something that happens after a few seconds of playback.

I'm no expert in all the complexities of dpkg, apt, and apt-get. I just mess around with stuff until it works. In your case I would try the following three commands: sudo apt --fix-missing update sudo apt update sudo apt install -f If that doesn't work I would try installing hqplayer with dpkg instead: sudo dpkg -I hqplayer4desktop_4.17.2-83amd_amd64.deb you'll get an error which you can hopefully fix with: sudo apt-get -f install Good luck!

In all cases, latest Roon on Mac Studio M1MAX. 1) HQPlayer 18 on Mac Studio via localhost - constant timeout/Lost control of audio device 2) HQPLayer 17.2 on Mac Studio via localhost - constant timeout/Lost control of audio device 3) HQPlayer 17.1 on Intel Mac Mini via LAN - works 4) HQPlayer 17.2 on Ubuntu PC via LAN - constant timeout/Lost control of audio device 5) HQPlayer 17.1 on same Ubuntu PC via LAN - works So to summarize -- 17.2 and 18 don't work for me via localhost or via LAN. 17.1 works for me via LAN on two different machines. I haven't been able to test 17.1 via localhost on the Mac Studio because I can't download it. I'd really like to try 17.1 on the Mac Studio.

Just tried 14.18 on the Mac Studio, and unfortunately the 14.7.2 bug is still there. Constant Timeout/Roon lost control of audio device.

    HQ Player

After: sudo dpkg -I hqplayer4desktop_4.17.1-80_amd.deb You get a bunch of missing dependencies, right? So after that you type: sudo apt-get -f install After that HQplayer will be installed. No need to run dpkg again.

14.7.2 Bug confirmed. I bought a Mac Studio just to run Roon and HQplayer on it, and I've been tearing my hair out. Only a few seconds after starting, Roon always says it "Lost control of Audio Device" and HQPlayer sometimes shows a "Timeout" message. This is with HQPlayer 4.17.2 So ... I ran just Roon on the Mac Studio and installed HQPlayer 4.17.2 on a Ubuntu PC and had the exact same "Lost control of Audio Device" problem. I read somewhere that this might be a bug in HQPlayer 4.17.2. I couldn't download 4.17.1 for the Mac Studio, but I could download it for the Ubuntu PC. Replaced 4.17.2 with 4.17.1 and now it works! So ... 1) Please send me a link to download 4.17.1 for my arm Mac Studio. 2) Please see if you can fix this bug introduced in 14.7.2 Thank you!

Good points! So they have 6 core i7 Mac instances: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/mac/ They have 3.5Mhz Intel Xeon processors with as many (virtual) cores as you want https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/c6i/ And they have the Intel Xeon processors with NVIDIA V100 GPUs https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/p3/ I don't know what HQplayer would "see" running on these. Might be worth a try? The big issue for me is I don't know which approach to the Virtual Private Cloud to use.

What got me thinking of this is that I'm playing super high quality video games streaming from a cloud PC using NVDIA'S Geforce service. If I can stream 1080p video and 5.1Dobly super reliably and smoothly from a cloud PC, with near-zero latency, why wouldn't HQPlayer work?

    HQ Player

I would like to run HQPlayer on AWS in the cloud, on a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) that connects my home LAN (Roon Server, Client Raspberry PI's, Control iPad) to HQPlayer, running on AWS, as if they were all on the same network. Amazon says there's multiple ways to create a Virtual Private Cloud https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/connect-vpc/ Does anyone have any suggestions for which of these methods are most likely to work, and which I should avoid? Thanks!

    HQ Player

OK - I went ahead and updated my Nvidia drivers. Now it says "resample=enabled, convolution = disabled" But the 2-3 second long pauses every few minutes were still happening. So I moved some files from my network drive to the PC's local drive and the pauses seem to have gone away. Are there any settings in HQPlayer, for example to make it download a whole song from a network drive before playing it?
