  1. Indeed. I purchased a used HP ProCurve 2900-48 switch for about $200 on eBay which I've used for the last 4 years. 48GBit copper Ethernet ports, 2 CX-4 10GBit copper ports and 2 X2 10GBit fiber optic ports which I use for a pair of 30 meter runs of LC-SC fiber cable runs to my listening room. This is true enterprise grade gear. It does produce some heat and the fans will be heard.
  2. I got my Tascam DA-3000 and pair of 32GB SDHC and CF cards in. What a brilliant little device, it is heavier than it looks. Build quality seems good. I don't have to futz with PC operating systems, drivers and hardware tweaks now. I can't wait to try it later on this week
  3. I went ahead and purchased a Tascam DA-3000 for $635 + SH This looks like a well designed recording solution. I have read much praise for the DA-3000. It's cheaper than the dedicated $1000 i7 based computer solution I was on the way to building. I'll order a pair of 32gb SDHC and CF cards to record to and I should be good to go. Thanks for the insight Audio_ELF. I think this is much more elegant solution.
  4. I see a "Zoom H6" and "Roland R-05" are popular handheld units. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/967366-REG/zoom_h6_handy_audio_recorder.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687099-REG/Roland_R_05_R_05_Portable_24_bit_Digital.html
  5. Thanks I guess it certainly pays to ask BEFORE I start buying parts. I guess on the plus side in only got about $300 into the PC build. (Mobo + RAM). thanks I will seek out a Tascam DA-3000
  6. Hello all I am putting together a PC for the sole purpose of ripping vinyl records and possibly performing de-clicking or other static removal. I have iZotope RX5 Audio editor software to install on a optimized Windows 10 x64 system What I am wondering is if the ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Gene motherboard is up to the task of capturing audio with it's built-in sound? Board is here: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII GENE LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard - Newegg.com The audio features are: ESS ES9023P DAC, Nichicon Caps, High precision clock source I plan on using either the Samsung M.2 950 Pro or the new M.2 960 Pro SSD for local storage Power supply will be an eVGA P2 Platinum 650 watt power supply EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2 220-P2-0650-X1 80+ PLATINUM 650W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply-Newegg.com I am leaning toward the i7 6700K CPU but I am tempted to wait for the i7 7700K CPU to be released SOON. Keep in mind the ONLY thing I will use this for is vinyl ripping, no web browsing, no music playback. I have a whole other i7 system + i3 NAA + DAC + DDC for playback. How good does the capture device need to be? Do I need something to capture in DSD instead?
  7. I just downloaded [h=1]Fiona Joy - Signature-Solo (3.5GB)[/h]from Blue Coast Records: DSD128 I'm about to go give it a listen now
  8. Thank you !!! I never even noticed the 4 grey pull downs on the MAIN Window before now. It's working. I am FINALLY hearing DSD256 material for the very first time. I mean... just WOW... It sounds like I just bought better speakers. My CPU utilization is only 10-11% Tomorrow I will tackle the NAA I built and could not get working properly. I now have 2 separate 10Gbit dual mode fiber connections under my house to my HP Switch. One for the HQPlayer/HTPC and the other for the NAA. I'm the one a few pages back that could not get adequate VOLUME from the NAA.
  9. Thanks... Because it is a 65" display, scaling was set to 225%. At 100%, things are too small to see from my listening position but at least I can see the settings enough to read them now. My playlists have mixed FLAC and DSD files. I want to upsample everything to DSD256. Can HQPlayer do that and what are the settings to achieve this? thanks
  10. I finally have all my gear here and connected. I was not able to get the Singxer SU-1 DCC because it was delayed so I now have like 2 days left on my trial of HQPlayer. I am very frustrated with HQPlayer. First and foremost I cannot even READ most of the settings because the text is squished together, overlapping and/or truncated. It's like way too much information is jammed in the menu and it is not being rendered and scaled properly with Windows 10. I'm on Win 10 Pro, i7-6700K with Nvidia GTX 1070 video, 16GB RAM, Samsung SM951 SSD I would like to change and play with the settings but I cannot even SEE them!! I have tried both 1080p 60Hz and 2160p on my Samsung 65JS8500 My next step will be upsampling to DSD256 through the Singxer SU-1 to my Gustard X20 via IIS over HDMI which I do not know how to do yet.
  11. I'm going to try something different. I've been stalking DCC interfaces for a few months now. I just now ordered a Singxer SU-1 DDC I will install the Singxer Drivers and let it feed the Gustard X20u Also while I'm mucking around, I will probably: 1 - Replace the X20 transformer bolts with nylon ones 2 - Add non-metal doughnuts under the transformers 3 - Twist the internal power wires 4 - Possibly make my own X20 power cord and bypass the ON-OFF switch and fuse. DIY Power Cord 5 - Remove the USB card from the X20 I had looked at the Tanly DCC for a while but for whatever reason waited. Maybe the NAA PC will have better luck talking to the Singxer SU-1 I'm about 3 days into my 14 day HQPlayer trial so I would like to get this sorted out ASAP.
  12. Yes. I even went to the settings where I set the Vol Min and Vol Max in order not to go into clipping. The final thing I did last night was to take the NAA out of the equation and connect my DAC back the way it used to be connected (to the HTPC directly). Volume levels returned to normal when I removed the NAA and using ASIO I am able to upsample to 384k. Using WASAPI I can only do 192k upsampling. My Gustard X20u does do DSD but I could not get it to work when NAA connected. HQPlayer would stream data but there was no sound from the DAC when NAA connected.
  13. I finally installed HQPlayer (trial) + NAA in my system a couple days ago. I must say it has been a learning curve. What I WANTED to do was install HQPlayer on my heavy lifting HTPC with the i7-6700K + GTX1070 The HTPC machine has a dual port Intel X520 10Gb fiber card. My NAA also has a 10Gb fiber card connected directly to the HTPC. The HTPC 2 10GB ports were bridged so that the NAA could connect to the HTPC without me running another fiber under the house to the switch. This works as long as I use a static IP outside the DHCP on my router. Both computers work on the network and the internet and I can remote desktop to the NAA. ....but HQPlay will not find the NAA when configured this way..... go figure.... the HTPC can ping the NAA and everything but still no go. Instead I used the Intel onboard gigabit 219 on the NAA Z170 mobo. This at least works... Right now my biggest issue is I cannot get any reasonable volume from this setup. I have to turn up the volume on my preamp to at least 2 O'clock for a soft listening session. Mostly I am between 75 & 100% volume. With Foobar2000 and the DAC I would never need to go more than 12 noon for VERY LOUD!!! What am I missing???? Also I cannot see the settings in HQPlayer because the font sizes are all wrong and push outside the config box. thanks
  14. I am wondering if this Combination of HDPlex 100w +160W DC-ATX could be or even "Should be" used to power my NAA PC? https://www.amazon.com/HDPLEX-Linear-CAPS-19V-Adjustable-Faceplate/dp/B00J40ES8W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1470324195&sr=8-4&keywords=linear+power+5V https://www.amazon.com/HDPLEX-DC-ATX-Power-Supply-16V-24V/dp/B00KVWHUXW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51CsquybFTL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR320%2C320_&psc=1&refRID=DT6N77950T6FD8WP9XDP Basically I would take the 19v output from the 100W linear and input it into the HD-Plex DC-ATX board and not using it's 160w supply. The only thing I will have connected is a Z170 motherboard w/Intel i3-6100 CPU + motherboard mounted Samsung M.2 SSD The CPU fan and 1 chassis fan is run from a separate DC power brick.
  15. I meant to say..... " I used Tweak-SSD 2.0" and not HDD Tweaker.. Tweak-SSD for SSD 'drives' on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 - Totalidea Software
