  1. Most of the reviews I read on the Vega seemed to think it was better with a preamp than used as a preamp. Before I bought a Vega, I talked with a dealer that sold both the Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 DSDse and the Vega. I asked which he preferred and while he did answer Vega, it was not a quick resolute answer.
  2. I was addressing the comments that implied that the Archive drives would not hold up to the demands of a standard or NAS setup. This is simply not true. Are they ideal for NAS use? No, but not because they won't last under heavy use. I have two of the 8TB Archives I use for streaming audio and they work great. I expect them to last for years.
  3. Amen. I can hear a mechanical drive across my living room. I have a computer with an SSD and a fan-less power supply in my listening room. My somewhat noisy server is in the basement.
  4. Thanks for the feedback....I thought maybe I was going a bit daft in the head.
  5. I recently purchased an Auralic Vega along with a new Pangea USB cable and a Canare digital cable. I stream from both JRiver Media Center via USB and an Oppo BDP-95 via coax. While the Vega sounded good, I was expecting more of an improvement over my Oppo BDP-95. About two weeks later, the Vega seems to sound a LOT better. I had the DAC powered on for about 8 hours the day I noticed the big improvement. Has anyone else had an experience like this?
  6. The Seagate Archive drives, as stated on their 'Data Sheet' is "Engineered for 24x7 workloads of 180TB per year". Nowhere has Seagate stated that these drives are for backup only.....unless you plan on reading and/or writing more than 500GB of data per day. These drives are slower than most 7200RPM drives, so they are not well suited for your main boot drive. That's why Seagate markets these drives as 'Archive' not any inability to handle the workload. I have 2 of the 8TB Archives in my server for streaming. Keep in mind that the internal drive comes with a 3 year warranty where the external one has a 2 year warranty.
