  1. Thanks guys for the advice. Indeed the SdTrans sounds very very good Monteverdi and because of this I’m willing to settle on it’s short comings, besides I only listen to Red Book standard. Once you go I2S connection & individual power supply, the player is in another league. Thanks again guys
  2. Hi Guys Im really a noob when it comes to computer stuff. Would like to seek you advice on how whether ripping via Exact Copy using my laptop is good enough or should I build a dedicated ripper ? If in need to build would greatly appreciate your kind advice pls. Im not into computer audio, the purpose of ripping Wav is to transfer files into Sd Card as Im using an SdTrans384 for playback. Thank you all kindly in advance
  3. Btw the files in MY Book are mix of Wav, DSD etc Thanks
  4. Hi Guys, Trying to set up MY Book WD to link with my lap top but unable to get it to work. I was advice to download I Tunes to my Lenovo lap top. It's a window 7 program. I got into I tunes set preference in advance menu but still unable to read the files from WB. Would appreciate your guidance & advice pls Many thanks
  5. Hi YashN Im afraid I can no longer do so cause I'm not in Taiwan anymore. Btw what would be a HQ player ?
  6. Hi YashN The dac is a local design base on the Sabre dac. It is quite an elaborate design with 3 transformers separately feeding the dac , discrete zero feedback output stage & the Usb receiver stage. local regulators are all shunts. Music files are in a My Book hard disc fed into Mac lap top using J rivers software. Dac is connected to FM ACOUSTICS pre & power amp combo. Sound wise is pretty analog dont hear didgitis but then again these guys only listen to Jazz & Classical didn't get to hear how it sounds like in heavy music . In anycase to my ears it sounds pretty good but nothing like day & nite over red book playback. Im a noob in this computer music thing but after some reading I still see that interface issues, circuit noises are still around & with higher speed & higher sampling rates etc. the supposely higher resolution might be a mooted point if above issues aren't resolved. Besides how much is enough & are we into feeling the emotions of the music or are we into equipment tweaking. Cheers
  7. Hi Guys Just a little update. Out of curiosity I replaced my power amp cord which was a TNT -Audio diy recipe which sounded very good with Guru's power cord. On first listening it sounded slower but further listening it isn't. Just that the sound became more relax the instrument blossom like having more space for them to breath. Soundstage is like 2 steps back which for me is good thing. Width remains the same. Another surprise is the bass goes lower. Example for Kudo drums instead of just hearing the skin when the drum stick hit, you also hear the body of the drum. It just sound more real more wholesome. The decay is so much more realistic. Lastly the attack very bouncy & lifely. This is only for Cd source. After experiencing this, it does make me wonder if there's still any need to go DSD or upsampling etc.
  8. My bad Rocky yes your correct. Its about switching a stock PC power cord to that 'Special' cord
  9. To be precise 1 power cord Rocky. Apologies gentleman. Didn't know a simple experience would create such diverse views. Yes I must admit it really is something very difficult to explain or understand.
  10. Hi Guys, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Well it looks like technology hasn't resolve the issues that we had in Cd playback, namely jitter, different cables etc. Perhaps it might be even worse given the speed that computer system works at. Speaking of which, may I ask what's the deal about DSD ? Was also at my friend's hi-end shop & he too is into this computer playback. Listen to his system via down loaded DSD files into a My Book hard D played back via Apple lap top into a Esotric dac. Hmmm no big deal, I'm sorry but aside from a little more transparency I really don't hear much improvement over a good Red Book playback. In fact at times I hear some unnatural artifacts. Guys would it not be better to go SD card player instead. I know there isn't that many commercial stuff available but this just might be a really good go between system over computer play back. Thanks again Guys
  11. Yes Im serious . Yes technology is that advance but . Just like jitter in Cd playback it exsisted now after so many years & with so much advancement it is still around . I must admit Im from the old school meaning I really don't know much about computer play back. Thks
  12. Hi 4est We just call him by Khao. I actually learn my diy audio stuff from him. Remembered my early days using boutique stuff & he would always codemn their useage & as it always turns out that his right. He always says the secret of good sound starts at the source. For any equipment it means the transformer. All his transfomers are custom wound. Here again he's never into exotic materials.. Does this mean that I no.longer use exotic stuff ? Nope I still do but no longer crazy. E caps my fav is stil BG but only standard. Since they no.longer made next fav E cap is Elna Silmic 1 Cheers
