1. I am enjoying Audirvana. It is a little smoother than Decibel on my system. What I really would like though is to have the ability to shuffle as that is the mode I use most often. Also it would be nice if the playlist would follow what is being played. I'm looking forward to the integer mode.
2. Wgscott,

I'm glad to hear you got the problem resolved and are enjoying improved sound. May I ask what the problem was? Having a Nova myself, this is of interest to me.
3. Wgscott, Sorry my previous reply to you was not totally correct. I had forgot that the toslink/hiface comparison was on my previous dac/pre which was a Tube Audio Design dac. So I never compared toslink to hiface on my Nova. I'd do the comparison for you,but I no longer have my toslink adapter. It sounds like, according to your experience, that the Nova has a much better implementation of toslink than my Tadac as the hiface was much better than toslink on that unit.
4. Wgscott, I am glad that you are trying a USB/spdif converter. I use a Nova as a dac/pre and I heard a big difference with almost everything I tried over the use of my high quality toslink cable. My hiface made a big difference and now I'm using a jkeny modified hiface and it sounds awesome. The bridge is highly rated so I'm surprised you don't hear any difference. Did you change to the bridge in the audio midi as well as the sound settings?
5. I have the old ATV with the 320g hddrive. I don't need to have another computer on to use it. It has also been said that it sounds better coming off the harddrive than streaming and I concur. I don't use it for movies, just music in another room! I also use AIFF for the best sound. I believe, I could be wrong, that it will not stream AIFF, but converts it to Applelossless, so it is easier to stream.

Mark In my experience there is no extra gain through PM. You can use the volume in PM to get less gain as it is a high quality one.

Mark, Did you go into system preferences/sound and select your dac there? If you want to use the hog mode then you would want the audio midi and the sound in system preferences to be set to the built in output and then select your dac in Pure Music under the advance audio button. If you use your mac for just music out of Pure Music that is the best option. If you hope to have sound using your Mac for anything else you are better off selecting your dac in system preferences/ sound and the audio midi. Hog mode should not be selected in Pure Music.

Gulinias, To find your app. folder, click on your Mac hard drive icon on your desktop. But I would not save the Pure Music app. to that folder. I would keep it on your desktop as Rob often has updates and Pure Music can be run from the desktop. You can drag the Pure Music icon from the folder to your dock to have easy access to start the program. When the next update comes, drag the PM icon off the dock and it will disappear and you can repeat above for the next update. To find memory play you have to click on the advance button in the upper left corner of Pure Music.

Rob, Thanks!! I appreciate allowing us Pure Vinyl owners to also have access to Pure Music. Very kind of you! Jim

Ted, I am very sorry to hear about all your losses. Music, indeed has been a comfort to me through the difficulties in my life. I'll be praying for you and your family. Regards, Jim
11. It is working great with my early 2009 Mac Mini using Itunes or Pure Vinyl. The new update on Pure Vinyl that updates the remote, when selected, does cause clicks. Otherwise occasional clicks at the beginning of tracks. Handily beats out my Focusrite Sapphire LE, FW to Spdif interface, which handily beat out my toslink. A great value!!
12. I am having very little problems with clicks on my early 2009 Mac Mini. Mostly at the beginning when I'm switching to a new song. Also I can't use the remote update feature on my Pure Vinyl as it clicks everytime it updates. (every 3 seconds). It sounds significantly better than my Focusrite Sapphire LE, which sounded significantly better than my Toslink out. The sound is more transparent, more 3 dimensional, smoother, more analog sounding. Instruments are more separated. I'm very pleased. Maybe I can hold off for now before purchasing a more sophisticated usb spdif converter.
13. I ordered one as well and it should be arriving Friday. I'll compare it to my Focusrite Sapphire LE and let you know what I think. I'm hoping it will be a significant improvement so I can hold off buying a Sonicweld diverter or Wavelength Wavelink for a while.

I believe Pure Music is the same as Pure Vinyl without the vinyl recording part. Other than no upsampling at this point, which I do not use, it operates the same. So I believe comparisons are valid.

To shuffle or not to shuffle, that is the question!
