  1. I can verify that non-MQA playback is indeed affected. On a lark I updated the firmware on an iDSD Nano. The behavior and sound signature was immediately different (reduced reference levels; DSD 256 sounded similar to DSD 128 from v5.2 firmware; PCM was just "off"). On my first crack at MQA there was an 18dB level change. And then standard PCM didn't function. DSD did, but did not sound the same as the initial listen. Going back to MQA and then Redbook in Tidal restored PCM functionality, but then going back to MQA bricked all output. It took several attempts to reflash the firmware (v5.2) and regain functionality. I tried v5.30 again to see if I could replicate it. The sonic differences were still there. I have just tried MQA again, and while it did not lose functionality again (except that DSD was compromised again after), there was still a substantial level change. I would be curious to see some measurements from the legacy iFi devices with the v5.30 firmware.
  2. A majority of live sound performance that I have ever worked in recent memory have run everything over a digital snake using Dante at 48kHz. Where is the bandwidth savings with MQA?
