  1. Is there any firmware developments on the Pro iDSD at the moment? Thanks,
  2. I use the AudioQuest Niagara 1000 with the Pro iDSD, the effect of the Nigara was not small, but never compared the Nigara 1000 with other similar products in the same price range or better. I loved this review, and the idea of upgrading the Pro iDSD power supply is now something I want to try in the future. Maybe iFi comes out in the future with power supply designed for their Pro range.
  3. I must say yes, there is a big pleasure of experiment, discovering, learning with it, also listening to music because music is the reason that we buy an audio system.
  4. Choosing the music we like is very simple, having it delivered with the quality we expected is another thing and many times a desapointing experience. Yes is very complicated when we add hardware that changes completely the system sound that we invested before, if you build a system without control the noise and power first, all your hardware decisions made where based for shure on the sound you know before thinking in cleaning the noise on the power line. That hardware combination has a lot of variables with different cables and brands that we hope to result in the best synergy, at least is what we expect of it in the end, the best possible synergy of our investiment. But when cleaning the power this could disrupt the sound signature and synergy because your system was built around a sound signature without taking this into account. For me cleaning was and it will be an interesting journey, some hardware make noticieble changes, other more subtitle ones, the beneficts in my case had to be bettered to some extent with better quality cables, and is still not perfect, but I also think it will never be, because if perfection is attainable the price is for shure very out of my league and I will only have a glimpse of it in audio shows. And the puzzle grows with every step...
  5. Cleaning the noise on the system can bring beneficts like detail, control, speed of little elements, better view into the mix, better separation, but also come with trade off’s, cleaning too much could turn the sound more analytical and control too much the bass, can sharpen the voices and with it resulting in lower sense of musicality. The effect of cleaning the power could make the system more revealing and exigent on the quality of the recording but also remove the pleasure from the music. I think every hardware that you connect not specifically the ones that clean the power have their own personality even a power cable can dramatically change a system sound. When I first connected an audioquest nigara in my system the effect of the cleaning was really amazing, and I am referring to the effect of cleaning, I gained a lot of positive aspects and loose others that also are important. The nigara gave me the sensation of removing a big dirty curtain in front of my speakers, but it also removed a lot of body in the music, the sound was thin but clear as water, so I had to compensate with power cables to maintain that sense of cleaning and recover some body in the music and bass. But that’s my specific case, every system has is pros and cons.
  6. A small review and personal opinion. I became addict of the iPurifier when it fist brought it to my first edition iFi Micro iDSD, at the time I was discovering the iFi Products, and the iPurifier was an interesting product then in price and quality. The original changed the sound signature of my system in a positive way, giving me more information and after that I brought the original Micro iUSB, but with the micro iUSB I also purchased the iPurifier 2, and they work paired giving me a lot or more information and dynamics, better sense of dimension with the harman kardon GLA-55, the effect was present in texture, better highs and lows, better small dynamic perception. This small changes that sometimes when reading could be interpreted as big and that your system changes completely, but they are not in the magnitude of the words, but the words used are a good guide to focus a user in the perceptible changes in an easy to better evaluate the perceived benefits , for me in the way they work are in a magnitude way bigger than the 100 euros could give. But this review is not about the iPurifier 2, instead the new iPurifier 3. The iPurifier 3 is a USB gadget that reclocks, regenerates and has a rebalance tech, it incorporates a active noise cancelation technology that works impressively, a revised and upgraded version of the last itineration of their iPurifier 2 I also own, as always the unbox experience of the package from iFi products is very special. The little package comes with a lot of extras and no one will indifferent of the construction quality of the iPurifier 3, it’s a rewarding hardware tech marvel. Ifi upgraded all the internals resulting in a little bigger piece of hardware, there are new OS-CON capacitors, a new version of the noise canceling technology named “Active Noise Cancellation2® (ANC2)” and all the internals are better quality. What about the iPurifier 3 in sound when compared to the 2. The iPurifier 2 was a great product and it made an very good sonic upgrade, the iPurifier 3 feels a lot more refined, it has most the benefits form the iPurifier 3, but is more transparent, musical and natural, when connected to the system it does not have a defined personality, to explain I will try to explain the effect of the iPurifier 3 and the original iUSB, it added bass and highs noticeably, and when I connected to some of my higher quality and recent components like the iFi Pro iDSD version 2 gave a small veil in the sound. Notice that the iFi Pro iDSD does not need an iPurifier 2. Anyway I tried the iPurifier 3 in my iFi iDSD pro to see if the same issue was present, and it was not, it simply cleaned the sound without any added issue, so this was an interesting test, the product has no degradation effect on the cables. After that, as I brought it to the micro iDSD Black Label for my son I, removing the iPurifier 2 and connecting the iPurifier 3, it does give a more realistic and neutral musical presentation, also it really cleans more as some little sound are more perceptible like if o had sharpness to little details that where there but not so audible, the high frequencies are substantial more natural and less “irritating”, the lows are also more perceptible, and example is the Album Tubular Bells 3 from Mike Oldfield, the first track in the beginning has a bass that goes from left to right and right to left and that perception with the iPurifier 3 is a lot more defined and engages you more on the music track. Also, the sound stage has benefits, as you gain small details and separation, you also gain in density of information, focus on all the dimensions of the soundstage and a global better enjoyment of your music. Reading all the above and buying the iPurifier 3 is a no brainer if you have a system transparent enough that could show changes in the whole, I used the iFi new Gemini 3.0 Cable and also an Audioquest Diamond, and the original version of the iFi Gemini. As I have been upgrading my system a lot in the last year, every step comes with trades and benefits, my system has turned out to become more revealing each time, some hardware results very well other not that so. The iPurifier 3 made no degradation and gave me a more beneficial effect with the iDSD Black Label. I have to give my regards to iFi as each itineration of their product line, has been really an upgrade from the last, the iPurifier 3 deserves a very good listen.
  7. Thats a good question, I find the ethernet connection on the Pro IDSD a fantastic result, by usb connected to the computer it depends on the computer generated noise and quality of the usb connectors used inside, in my case was good but not on par with the ethernet UPNP protocol on Audirvana. For this motive I acquired a SOTM SMS200 Ultra and an SPS500, this resulted on a positive combination and a welcome upgrade. But I have to say that the ethernet has more separation and focus, the soundstage is smaller on the iFi than the SOtM SMS200 Ultra and SPS500, but not worse, in my case I have the best of both worlds. The sound of the iDSD Pro by UPNP by Ethernet Cable is something that amazes me, and if better support in software is given to the iDSD Pro, ethernet connection should be the way to go, and if future ROON software support is added you will have the ultimate killer one box DAC, I think you do not need much more to have a marvellous sound. My updates where a little extreme, and the benefits is grown a bit. a bit more not a lot more, but not in the proportion of the final added cost, and even then with all the changes, that was a consequence of bad software support at the moment. I find the iDSD Pro ethernet has a separation and sound stage that I never heard before in any other hardware, the USB requires some good hardware and cable pairing to be on the same level or above. When I heard the ethernet sound produced, I saw what the iDSD Pro can give for the first time, and that made me to remove the computer from the equation, now it's working only as a remote control. So both have advantages, but if you can go totally by ethernet, yes, is cheaper, sounds better, and needs more support from software at the moment. English is not my home language, so forgive me some gramatical errors.
  8. Yes, and if you press the input selector know you can dimm the display. There are also the function Press and hold, on the imputes selector, press and hold changes the polarity, and on the filter selector pess and hold to configure WIFI by WPS.
  9. I do not use the Muso APP, as my main use is on desktop, so the dac is at the reach of my hand. Maybe you can control the sound with the master sound of the phone by airplay, I do not think you can control the dac volume by the app itself, but is really something I can't help.
  10. The battery was not included, it's a normal CR 2025, I also noticed that when I opened the box.
  11. This is a very interesting kit for on the go. I much appreciate the X line look.
  12. have acquired the dc iPurifier 2, I have a substantial investment in power accessories in my desktop audio, audioquest thunder and tornado cables, an audioquest nigara, sbooster power supply’s, and now the DC iPurifier 2. The introduction is not to grab about cables or other hardware, but because I thought the DC iPurifier 2 will not do anything or bring any benefit to my setup, it was connected between the SBooster and the SOtM sMS-200 Ultra streamer. In my case it did no do a big, mean big difference but it made difference, after all hardware and cables before it to clean and modulate the sound to my taste it bettered the sound a little more. What I have noticed was an overall sound gain in sharpness from low frequency’s to the high’s without compromising any musicality or having a degradation effect that some man in the middle accessories could bring. I already have a pretty big investment for cleaning the electricity of my desktop audio, so the result of the DC iPurifier was a surprise to me that I was not expecting. If I removed the SBooster and the audioquest tornado connected from the SOtM, and try the DC iPurifier 2 with the original power supply that comes with the SOtM the difference’s this time were in a greater proportion, as affects a lot more aspects of the sound as bigger image, a better sensation of transparency, attack and decay of notes, and the wall on the back of the speakers goes back a few inches more. The combination of the SBooster, Audioquest tornado and DC iPurifier 2 result is justified for me, even giving only a small increase in the global result. But one thing I can’t complaint is an increase. The original SOtM transformer with DC iPurifier 2 combination is a bigger and more justified difference, but can’t compete with the added SBooster, AQ Tornado and DC iPurifier 2 trio. All devices audio devices were connected to the AQ Nigara 1000, and for the price of the DS iPurifier 2 you can’t go wrong.
  13. Yes I have. could be on the SOTM, I will dig into it. This is an intermittent issue.
  14. I have invested significantly in the power and noise accessories in the last year, started with audioquest power cables to the audioquest nigara and some iFi accessories and linear power supply’s.. The audioquest nigara was an impressive upgrade, It cleaned a lot, and I mean a lot... It’s almost very strange the effect it made because it removed a big clowd in front of the speakers. The conclusion I took very easily is that controlling power and noise offered me great musical rewards. A diferent way of saying the same, controlling the power and noise wil not upgrade the components you already own, instead will let them show you what they really capable of and you didn’t know. iFI solutions for noise removal bring results way beyond their price, I consider them a real bargain from their build quality to the results they bring. Some devices translate this effect more clearly than others, I find the Pro iDSD to be imune to noise, But take in to account that a good quality usb cable makes him show a lot more.
