  2. Generalizations are dangerous. Unfortunately the best way to know is to look for comments from others for suggestions but you have to try if for yourself on your set up. For example I must have acquired over half a dozen discs or music files for Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue over the past 30 years. So far this recently available download in DSD256 sounds the best by far to me https://www.highdeftapetransfers.ca/products/miles-davis-kind-of-blue-pure-dsd I attribute the sound to the 15ips 2-track tape used, the process used to digitize, and the DSD256 format generally sounds great on my sytem. Another example of the importance of the recording engineer’s choice of microphones, placement and recording equipment are these two music files of a live performance of Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade performed by Gianandrea Noseda and the Filarmonica Teatro Regio Torino Version #1: https://www.nativedsd.com/product/sacd148sheherazade-suite-sinfonica-op-35/ was recorded in DSD64. I got this recording a few years ago and it was unlistenable. The soundstage is compressed and the music lifeless. Uncharacteristicly bad for a DSD64 recording Version #2: https://www.nativedsd.com/product/sacd193-korsakov-sheherazade-noseda/ recently became available. The recording engineer had a 2nd recording setup recording simultaneously using less (only 2) microphones but was able to capture more hall ambiance and recorded it on analog tape. Subsequently digitized this version 2 sounds wonderful, the music is alive, expressive and you have a much better sense of being in the concert hall. I’ve read that one should only buy music downloads in the resolution it was originally recorded in. Logically how could a higher resolution of the original recording sound any better? This recoding available on the NativeDSD website of Brahms Symphony 3 & 4 performed by Blomstedt and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig was originally recorded in PCM 96kHz. https://www.nativedsd.com/product/ptc5186852-brahms-symphonies-3-4/ But higher resolution versions of this recording (DSD256) sound much better.   4. View Classified Buffalo BS-GS2016 Switch Modded by Nenon I acquired this modded Buffalo BS-GS2016 switch from Nenon in October 2020. This switch was modded with extra capacitors, wire, DC connector, chassis damping, vibration treatment, Gaia feet. It requires 12V DC and accepts a 2.1mm barrel connector. It’s in perfect operating condition. It replaced an EtherRegen, Gen1, and sounded much more natural on my stereo system. I found that a high quality power supply (like a Sean Jacobs DC4) and DC and AC cables also improved the sound.   5. I too use a preamp and a 6 volt setting. The Tambaqui is very revealing of all of your system’s attributes. Changes in cabling and everything upstream of the DAC are easily discernible. Although I’ve been enjoying my Tambaqui for many years, here’s a setting I only recently discovered that I thought some might be worth sharing. in the mola mola remote app I’m using preset #3 which is the USB input in Direct mode. If you hit the Edit Preset 3 button, I adjusted the Volume Offset to -2dB. I recently made some changes to my network switch which significantly increased resolution, but made me notice some higher frequency noise. This setting eliminated that. Bill at GTT told me this is the “standard setting” he recommends.

Sean Jacobs DC4 ARC6 and Auralic Aries G2.1 Over the past three years I’ve had very good results working with Sean Jacobs and Vassil (Nenon) to build custom linear power supplies to power my ever evolving digital system. I started with a DC3, then a DC4, and now the ARC6 DC4. My digital set up has consisted of a external SSD which contains a few thousand hi-res music files, a Nucleus, a network switch (modded by Nenon), an Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer transporter and a Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC, which feeds into a preamp, amps & speakers Because I’ve been able to hear improvements even when making changes to the DC powering my external SSD, Nenon observed that I would hear more significant changes if I improved the DC powering devices closer to my DAC, specifically the Aries. The Aries in stock form is powered by a 2 transformer 3 rail power supply. I was initially hesitant to try this because of the cost of a 3 rail DC4 ARC6 plus AC and DC power cables which is disproportionate to the cost of an Aries. But having experienced the significant positive impact of Sean’s power supplies on each of my other digital components, I decided to take that the leap. I’ve had my modded Aries and DC4 ARC6 burning in nonstop for about 8 weeks. The burn in time on the ARC6 is very long (optimally I think it needs 3 months, but after 8 weeks it’s well along the path to sounding its best). This weekend I also had a burned in, stock Aries G2.1 to make a direct comparison. For me the investment was well worth it. The modded Aries delivers a much deeper soundstage and a more natural more lifelike sonic image. The difference compared to the stock Aries was immediately noticeable. As good as adding the stock Aries is in this configuration the modded Aries made the stock Aries sound like “hifi.” I had a good friend with me when we did this comparison.   12. I have been successfully ripping my SACDs to DSF files, thanks to this thread, which I discovered back in late 2016. But just recently my software stopped working. I wasn’t looking forward to going thru the 220 pages of this thread to figure out what changed. I’ve found that locally stored files ripped from my SACDs sound much superior to streaming on my system significantly enhancing my enjoyment of the music.
