  1. Have already tried USB on PC to DacMagic, same result. Will try the macbook in a bit to see if I can change the audio midi control panel thanks for your continue assistance h
  2. Hi Chris, I am using XP. Just did the mediamonkey test using the waveout, didn't work, still constant light at 48. however, you are right, the unit should be ok. I used coaxial output from my CA CD player to my DacMagic (instead of from PC), and when I play a CD, the light shows 44.1. and given I also tried to play the same tracks via my macbook via USB and still have constant light, that means 1) either my track is not ripped correctly (also they all show up info in media monkey / itunes as 32 or 96 depending on the tracks 2) something else I am missing still.... h
  3. Hi Chris, just did another test, I copied those rate test files to my macbook, and I use the USB interface to send to the DacMagic, and again, the incoming sample signal doesn't change. so either the files I ripped was not correct, or beginning something wrong with my DacMagic.... perhaps I can send you a few of those files that you can test? h
  4. Hi Chris, I am using my Co-axial output, the onboard sound is SoundMax with driver 5.10.1.6240, I tried look for places that it may do that but can't find it, any pointers will be helpful. thanks again. h
  5. Just out of curiosity I have ripped a piece of music (using iTunes) on mp3, using same bit rate but different sampling rates, on 8, 32, 44, 48 However, when I feed those signals to the DacMagic, the incoming sample rate indicator does not change at all, no matter whether it's 32 or 48, or even 96 (have some other hires music files) I used both WM11 as well as iTunes and foobar 2000 to play and same result. just wondering if I have missed anything....... pointers anyone??
  6. That is correct, I now have SP/DIF Coaxial from my PC to Dacmagic, and then coaxial on digital out as well as a pair of analog cables going to different inputs of my Onkyo AMP, and just switch between the two depending on the signal. I find that a convenient way to listen to the differences of the sound also as one should be through the Dacmagic circuit while the other is a bypass.
  7. thanks Chris.... I just re-read the manual (pdf link you provided) a bit more carefully and on pg 17, it said: Note: Being a stereo device, this unit does not decode 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS Bitstreams from a DVD player, etc. When receiving a multi-channel digital input, the analogue audio outputs are muted. However, a 5.1 DD or DTS Bitstream will pass-through to the digital outputs. So it seems like it will mute the analogue output........ now the question becomes if a stereo signal is input to the DACMagic, then will it also mute the digital output? I am hoping I can hook up both the RCA and coxial input to the same input channel (e.g. CD) on the SR803 and only one set of input will be active at a time h
  8. Hi all, I am considering getting a CA DacMagic given all the press and good reviews, my main purpose is to listen to my music from my PC via the onboard coxial output to the DacMagic and feed that into my Onkyo SR803, and from all I can read, the sound should improve from without the DAC I do also watch movies and send movie audio signals (mainly DTS) from the same link to the Onkyo, and the DacMagic provide coxial out also. My question is whether this bypass will degrade the digital signal, also I assume that the DacMagic will pick and choose the right output (RCA vs Coxial) automatically depending on the incoming signal? thanks for your help!
