  1. Are the green drives good for streaming movies as well?
  2. Would a WD My Book a good purchase? I am guessing the hard drive is not of the same quality as WD Red or Black drive.
  3. Thanks for all the replies /advice. Greatly appreciated
  4. A family member also informed me that they had 2 Seagate drives fail on them recently. Thanks for the second heads up.
  5. Sorry. I meant to write WD My Book 2TB. I was considering an external enclosure from OWC and the WD Black drives. But quite a bit more expensive than the My Book 2TB. Is it worth it?
  6. I am sure this has been discussed but I struggled to find a definitive answer. I was just about to purchase a WD My cloud 2TB to store my music. But then started to do some research and started to read that internal HDD units with an external enclosure may the best route to go. I am quite a newbie so am looking for advice/suggestions. My apologies if this is old news and has been replayed many times. Thank you for any help.
  7. A reliable source recently told me the Samsung SH-S203 is their best writer for DAE. This individual has approximately 50 writers. I just purchased 3 units myself. Waiting on my external enclosure to try them out
  8. Different pressings may be from difference masters, one could have errors in the pressing which would be transferred trough to ripping and other factors all could allow for differences in sound. Yes that makes sense also. I am sure there is a good chance they are from different masters. I have import and originals of the same albums. As well as re-remastered of the same albums. I would like to continue ripping so this will not be a one time affair for me. I would just like a good ripping drive. Some are 24x, 48x etc. Does the speed matter as I have read that slower burns produce better rips? The drive I am currently using I borrowed from my cousin. LOL. I guess I could purchase the same one but I am not against investing in something good or at least reasonably good. I do not mean to insult anyone and am only trying to understand it all. I appreciate everyone's insight and help. The open ended part I spoke of was more about whether I should bother investing in an internal w/enclosure vs. external drive. I guess if they both produce the same results... Thanks for all the help
  9. I have new cd's that are different pressings of the same album that sound different. I believe for sure that rips can sound different. Kind of makes sense.
  10. Any suggestions on a good cd/dvd drive set up that I can get my hands on? Kind of scared to buy used drives off ebay as the life of a drive is limited from what I gather. I found a used Sony DRU-810A on my local Craigslist for $15. But is it even compatible with SATA? It is on the Dbpoweramp most accurate list. Thanks
  11. I think I am a bit out of my league. I am fascinated by the perfect audio cd rip and am a musician who appreciates clear articulate tone. Is it worth it for someone like myself to invest in an external cd/dvd drive and an enclosure? Or are the thin portable external drives just as good? With all my research it appears to be an open ended question.
  12. So if I choose to invest in an external cd/dvd optical drive and get an enclosure I should attempt to change the power supply from 12V to 5V?
  13. Thank you so much. I guess I'll keep going as is. From my newbie point of view(which means very little) I appreciate the expert opinions and dialogue of this thread. I know the differing opinions may stoke the fire but it is a great learning tool from some knowledgeable people . Thank you. I read on another forum that the developer of dbpoweramp seems torn on this subject aswell.
  14. I am a green newbie. I wanted to rip my cd collection. I have done hours of research because I wanted to do it properly. This forum appears to have the most knowledgeable members so I appreciate all of your insights. I ended up using CueRipper after seeing this Comparison of CD rippers - Hydrogenaudio Knowledgebase. Is this comparison accurate? So I am using a thin portable external LG CD/DVD drive and have gotten all 'Accurate rips" according to the AccurateRip data report sheet. The sound is much better than my first attempt with WMP. But I am still not sure about the LG drive. I am willing to invest in a better drive if necessary. But am at a stalemate around this. Would an external enclosure with an internal drive be superior due to the 12V adapter power source? Do I need a drive off of this list: https://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?34019-CD-DVD-Drive-Accuracy-List-2014, or is something of a more recent manufacturing date okay. I am concerned about purchasing an older used unit as the mechanisms may be on their last legs. Thanks for all the insight and expert information on this forum.
  15. I hear what you are saying. But when I look through the list of most accurate drives they almost all have dvd capabilities. I realize you are probably correct though but cd only drives hard to find.
