  1. Hi, I am looking to use my Focal Solo 6BE powered loudspeakers to play all my main computer sound (mp3s, youtube, movies, etc) in Linux. On the Windows side of things I use Pro Tools with a dated digi 002 rack. Now, the digi 002 rack drivers are known for not working as a primary desktop sound card. Thus I had to buy an optical SPDIF cable and use my onboard motherboard audio SPDIF output to send digital information to the digi 002 rack. Using the cable is a pain. With Pro Tools, I tell the device to capture the SPDIF input and then setup the route to the loudspeakers. On Linux... the digi 002 is not supported. Am I looking for something like a 2-channel DAC? Then I would select that device in Linux as the output? And hopefully when I played my music on the desktop Linux would send the digital data directly to the unit (without cables) via drivers? Then the DAC would convert the digital information to audio and somehow get the signal to the powered loudspeakers which could amplify and ultimately play it? But -- how do I control the volume level of the DAC unit from Linux? In other words, it seems like I need some kind of software mixer to control the DAC output volume. I wonder if this is easy to do, and I'm making it more complicated because of my experience with the lame digi 002 drivers which could not handle desktop sound without an external cable. Am I kind of on the right path here? Thanks!
